Date:                                        Thursday, October 21st, 2010
Word of the Day:                     coruscate (KOR\uh\skayt); to give off or reflect bright beams or flashes of light, to sparkle

Goal:                                       lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Waist Size:                              46 inches
Rowing Duration:                    93 minutes 42 seconds

How about my weight?  I was going to wait until Sunday to announce my weight loss, but because it is so impressive (for me,) yes, I've lost a total of twenty pounds!  I have been exercising since August so I have roughly lost ten pounds a month, if I keep that up, I will meet my goal, how about that?

I called today's post "Tragic Thursday," because Zac and Winter have gone back to the cottage on the lake, they left very early this morning and I am missing them both already.   Zac will be closing the cottage down (finally) for the winter months.   Do any of you know any good health insurance plans as Zac and I need one for when we go down to Florida, we don't dare go down without any health insurance, that would be rather stupid of us.

Before leaving for the cottage on the lake, Zac and I went out for breakfast,  and while we were out I purchased some MAX Lottery tickets.  The MAX lottery's prize of forty-four million dollars would really help me and my family out.   Sometimes I allow myself to fantasize about winning the big prize and if I won, I really hope that my personality would not change.   I hope I would not become snobbish and allow myself to think that because I had some money, I was better than others, because as we ALL know, this is the farthest thing from the truth, it is not the amount of money you have in your bank that determines your value.

When I was at Dr. Alladin's office yesterday,  Dr. Alladin weighed me,  and it was then that I discovered that since Sunday, I have lost eight pounds, I guess being sick has its compensation, I hope I don't gain it back.

I also got my flu shot yesterday.  I think this is a good idea, I know many people don't like getting a flu shot but since I have asthma, it really is a good idea  as getting sick could land me in the hospital.   Did you know that in the year 2007 my asthma was so out of controk that I was in the hospital twelve times!!!! Can any of you top that, yup, at one time in my life St. Michael's Hospital became my second home and I owe the staff there a huge debt of thanks!

Today is the day you've been waiting for and I'm going to chat a little bit about the one and only Miss Andrea McArdle.

Andrea McArdle was born November 5, 1963, which makes her 46 years old.  Andrea is an American singer and actress best known for playing Annie in the Broadway musical "Annie," as well as for her alto range and strong vocal belt.

Andrea was born in Philadelphia and while studying dance as a child, she was spotted by a talent agent who got her work in a number of television commercials, which led to her two-and-a-half year stint on the soap opera "Search for Tomorrow."  Andrea also appeared on "Al Alberts' Showcase," a local televised talent show in Philadelphia.

Andrea McArdle's big break came in early 1977 when she was pulled from the chorus of orphans to replace Kristen Vigard, the original Annie in the Broadway musical ,"Annie," during rehearsals.   The show was a critical and commercial smash, and Andrea became the youngest performer ever to be nominated for a Tony Award as Best Lead Actress in a Musical.   Sadly, Andrea lost to co-star Dorothy Loudon, who played Miss Hannigan, but did receive the Theater World and Outer Critics' Circle Awards for her performance.

In April 1978, Andrea  opened in London's West End production of "Annie."  Andrea then appeared several times on "The Tonight Show" starring Johnny Carson in 1977-79, ands on one occasion was accompanied by Liberace.   I remember this performance, she sang "Over the rainbow."  Andrea also appeared more than once on the Mike Douglas Show, singing with Kristy McNichol, Stephanie Mills, Liberace and Don Rickles, but as of today, Andrea still has not had the pleasure of singing with me.  Maybe one day.

Andrea also appeared on "Welcome Back Kotter,"  playing Arnold Horshack's younger sister, can you imagine having that on your resume?, hehe.

After Andrea was finished playing Annie in the west end production of "Annie," Andrea played  the plum role of Judy Garland in NBC's telepic "Rainbow," but throughout her career, Andrea has concentrated primarily on performing in musical theater and cabarets.   Andrea McArdle's other credits include:   Les Misérables (both on Broadway and in the national tour), Jerry's Girls (a revue of Jerry Herman songs co-starring Carol Channing and Leslie Uggams) Beauty and the Beast, Starlight Express, Meet Me In St. Louis, Wizard of Oz, They're Playing Our Song, and another celebrated Annie in Irving Berlin's classic, Annie Get Your Gun.   Andrea briefly appeared in the 1999 Rob Marshall-directed TV version of Annie, singing a segment of the song "N.Y.C." a song originated by Miss Laurie Beechman, who was one of my favourite singers.  Miss Beechman passed away due to ovarian cancer.
Andrea McArdle

McArdle has performed in the showrooms of many of the casino hotels in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, and in cabarets such as Odette's in New Hope, Pennsylvania and the King Cole Room at the St. Regis Hotel and Freddy's Supper Club in Manhattan.  McArdle is once again starring in the musical Annie with the North Carolina Theatre Company, although she ironically now portrays the role of Miss Hannigan, at odds with her former character.

Andrea's  CD, "Andrea McArdle on Broadway," was arranged and produced by her husband, composer Edd Kalehoff, who also collaborated with her on an album of Christmas songs that was released in conjunction with her Family Christmas Show at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.   The Christmas show, "Andrea McArdle's Family Christmas" ran for three Christmas' and featured dancers, singers and acrobats from Encore Productions in South Jersey.  The couple has one daughter, Alexis Kalehoff, a performer who has appeared with her mother in Les Miz.

Andrea McArdle will be returning to "Annie" at Musical Theatre West in Long Beach, California, as Miss Hannigan from October 29 - November 14.  and I wish I could head west so I could see her in this production, I think it would be alot of fun!
