I had a tough time doing my workout on CC this morning, my feet were acting up, they were not only typically swollen, but they gave off alot of pain, oh well, maybe they'll be better tomorrow.

Piece Of MeImage via Wikipedia
For the record, it did warm up yesterday, it wasn't ninety degrees, but it was pleasant.  However, weather conditions back home in Canada seemed to have been interesting, I heard on the news that parts of Canada, and of course, the North Eastern States of the United States (U.S.) got violently hit with snowstorms, forcing many highways and roads to be shut down.

It is again, very cold here this morning, Zac and I are planning to go out for breakfast at the International House of Pancakes (IHOP,) it is our favourite place to go for breakfast and this will probably be our last time to patronize there, since we are leaving for Canada soon, oh so very soon.

Snowstorms are okay for yesterday, even today, but I hope that the inclement weather stops soon so that Zac, Winter and I shall not face too many problems on the road home.  The drive home is long enough, and tiring, without having to worry about hazardous conditions on the road, such as a snowstorm, so if there is anything that you can do, to assist our getting better driving conditions, please do whatever that thing is, Zac, Winter and I would appreciate an event-free trip home.

Well it seems Miss Britney Spears can't help but be in the news, she is accused of stealing lyrics from the song by the Bellamy Brothers ""If I said you had a beautiful body," for her song, "Hold it against me,"   I have not heard either song, yes I know, I'm so into things, but I hope things work out for Brittany, I do know that she has had a rough couple of years and it would be nice if things started going smoothly for her, don't you think so?

Did you know that the RMS Queen Mary 2 (QM2) is a Cunard Line ocean liner named after the earlier Cunard liner Queen Mary, which was, in turn, named after Mary of Teck, the Queen Consort of George V.  With fifteen (15) restaurants and bars, five (5) pools, a casino, a ballroom, a theatre, and a planetarium, the QM2 is the largest ocean liner in the world, and, at the time of its construction, was the longest, widest, and tallest passenger ship every built.  I would love to go on the Queen Mary 2, I have such nice memories when Zac and I did a crossing on th

My brother Biff and his family are scheduled to come over to the house that Zac and I are renting this afternoon, it is a farewell dinner of sorts; we were originally going to go out to dinner, but Zac thinks I need to stay home and keep my feet elevated as much as possible before we leave for Canada.

In addition, we are going to go and visit Grandmama, Louise's Grandmother, Vivian, this afternoon to say goodbye to her, and that, Zac feels, will be too much time already for me to not have my feet elevated.  I have to follow doctor's orders, don't you know.

Okay, I have been wondering about this for some time, and now that it is in the news I thought I would share with you something that has been on my mind for some time.  I wonder, and don't laugh at me as I have my reasons for believing the following, but I'm wondering if I could have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS.)

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a debilitating condition of physical and mental fatigue that does not lessen with rest.    CFS does not have a known cause or cure, but many sufferers believe that their illness began after a viral infection.

A 2009 study found a link between the XMRV virus, which is found in the DNA of mice, and CFS, when the virus was identified in blood samples of sixty-eight (68) out of one hundred and one (101) CFS patients.  However, researchers now say that those samples were contaminated in the lab, and that the virus is not the cause of CFSDo any of you out there have any knowledge or history with CFS?, if so, please share your experiences with me.

I was wondering two things this morning, and they are both Hollywood-related, first, do you think Kathleen Turner was a man before she was in her present body of a woman, and, second, do you think Barbra Streisand's husband, James Brolin, drinks?

Well people, I have alot to do today, I have to get ready to take Winter out for her walk, and Zac is already complaining that he wants to have his breakfast, so I better get on with things.  So should you.

Have a great day, and be good to yourself,  you are pretty special!

Wrapping it up in Florida soon, it is Wednesday already!

Date:                                                          Wednesday, January 12th, 2011
Word of the Day:                                       autoschediastical(aw\toh\SKEE\dee\az\tik\uhl); something improvised or extemporized

Weight:                                                       206 pounds
Goal:                                                           lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose:                                            74 pounds
Waist Size:                                                  41 inches
Days to go before we return to Canada:       two (2)
Rowing Duration:                                        sixty-one (61) minutes

Efrem has a sad face today as the end of this Florida trip is so much in sight.  Actually, I'm not really blue, there are some positive things that will happen when I get back to the land of snow, ice, cold, wind and many French-speaking people, one of which is I'll be able to get some more water pills that will help reduce the swelling in my legs and feet.

It has been overcast for a couple of days here in Gainesville, Florida, too bad, I would like to leave Florida on a sunny note!  Today, so far, it is unusually cold, but I'm hoping it will warm up, it has to, we're in Gainesville, Florida!

Other than doing some writing yesterday, not much else happened.  Zac, Winter and I did not go anywhere, we stayed home watching television, reading, and playing cribbage, which I lost badly to Zac, he even skunked me in one game.

Let's see, I also spoke to my sisters Judy and Yvonne yesterday on the telephone.  While I have been on this trip, I have talked to my sister Judy on the telephone at least twice a day, Judy lives by herself and gets awfully lonely, so I do what I can to help her feel that she isn't so alone.

The word of the day certainly is a mouthful; I know when I use it I'm sure to get a look or two from the person with whom I'm conversing, I think using it may seem a little pretentious, but on the other hand, I never created the word, I just happened upon it.

I thought I would reveal to you something else that I happened upon,  over the years, people have become increasingly cautious abut exposing their skin to the sun because of concerns about developing cancer.   I, personally, feel this is one hundred (100) percent justifiable, they do so much promoting and warning people not to go out in the sun, without skin protection.  And now, they're reporting that continuously slathering on sunscreen and shielding oneself from the sun can lead to Vitamin D deficiency, talk about terms in contradiction.

Vitamin D is a vital nutrient that helps keep bones strong,  prevents rickets, and protects against conditions like osteoporosis, which as many of you know, is something I developed about fifteen (15) years ago, due to medications necessary to take for my asthma.

United Kingdom (U.K.) experts are therefore recommending that, during summers, (here we go again,) people go out in the sun without wearing sunscreen for ten (10) to fifteen (15) minutes several times a week.  Sure, we will!

Okay, it has been a long time since I gave a grammar lesson, I thought I would give you a brief one today, stop complaining Lily, I was supposed to give a grammar lesson once a week, so you are getting off cheap today, and the subject of my grammar, or writing tip, which is what I prefer to call grammar, anyway, today we are going to give a little information on problems surrounding grammar check.,  I know, lots of fun!

Note the following sentence that was found inside a Word document: “The nouns and verbs are the main content words in this poem and without emphasis on them, this poem has little to no meaning.”  Word’s grammar check admonished the writer to insert a semicolon in place of the comma following them.

Errant nonsense, and puzzling advice, at that.  One respondent erroneously agreed with Bill Gates, while two people associated with this site validated the original writer’s reluctance to follow Word’s word.  But they didn’t explain why the grammar check had recommended this faulty course of action.  I didn’t understand it, either, but then I looked a little closer.

In another poster remarked, a human editor trumps a computer-generated one.   Computers may be able to defeat humans at chess, but I doubt they’ll ever beat people at editing.  Why?  They can compute, but they can’t think.  Here’s where Word went wrong:

It is assumed that the phrase “in this poem and without emphasis on them” was a compound phrase with the same structure as “on this page and on the next,” for example, and that this sentence could end with this phrase.

If that were true, “this poem has little to no meaning” would be an independent clause that could stand on its own.  But because the computer misread the context, it did not admonish the writer to correct a real error: A comma should follow the first instance of poem.

The correct form of the sentence is “The nouns and verbs are the main content words in this poem, and without emphasis on them, this poem has little to no meaning.”   (I also agree with the poster who pointed out that the phrase at the end of the sentence is more idiomatically correct rendered as “little or no meaning.”)

In this sentence “this poem has little to no meaning” is not an independent clause, but it is part of one: “without emphasis on them, this poem has little to no meaning” could stand as a separate sentence, so it should be preceded by a comma and the conjunction and.”

The moral of the story? Word’s grammar check, like its spell-check function, can be helpful,  but it can also misinterpret your intent as a writer. As the sage says, “Trust, but verify.”  And I know it isn't only grammar wherein we can apply that advice.
CherCover of Cher

Well, that is it for today's post, I'm not feeling very creative, I'm troubled thinking of where Cher keeps her Oscar, I didn't sleep well,  my feet were causing me alot of pain, maybe it will be better for all of us tomorrow.

Have a good day, and take care.

The Tinkering Taylor on Tuesday

Date:                                                                Tuesday, January 11th, 2011
Word of the Day:                                               lickerish (LIK\er\ish); fond of and eager for choice food; greedy; longing;lustful; lecherous

Weight:                                                             206 pounds
Goal:                                                                 lose 100 pounds in one year duration

Pounds to lose:                                                  74 pounds
Waist Size:                                                        41 inches
Days to go before we leave for Canada:               three, (3)
Rowing Duration:                                               sixty-six (66) minutes, nine (9) seconds

How about the word of the day?, I thought, on first glance of the word lickerish, that it's meaning would have something to do with the Mediterranean plant that gives us flavouring of candy and liqueur, but  after reading the definition of lickerish,  I knew that the word had to be a homonym, a homonym that I had previously not known of, but am always glad to learn.

I want to find a way today to incorporate lickerish into my diction, so that I not only build up my vocabulary properly, and timely,  but so that when I do use it,  I don't come across as a Mrs. Malaprop.

Using a word incorrectly can easily happen if one waits too long to use a word, well, not I, lickerish shall be in my words today, and I recommend you follow my actions, however, I realize that for some of you, following me is a scary thought?

Once again, I had some bad luck surrounding the television and Panasonic recorder which I am using to make new digital video devices (dvds) recordings.  Some of the programs that get my attention are rare movies and "old" specials, and documentaries.  I tend to love material from the forties, fifties and the sixties, do you think I was born at the wrong time?

There seems to be a plethora of channels here that show rare and old movies, and most of them are commercial-free, which is an added bonus.  The Cox Cable Company here runs some of my favourite "old, vintage" movies, as well as classic comedy shows, specials, and alot more of programs that I rarely get to see back home in Canada.

Anyway, whilst copying a film yesterday, the power went off momentarily and in doing so, managed to murder another disc, really, the power is off for less than a second, but evidently its long enough to ruin my recording.  Consequently, the entire disc with eight hours of programmning on it is irrepairable, and at this point, there is not much I can do about it,  except take it like a man, and suck it up, for lack of a better expression.

With regard to television, I am disappointed that The History Channel will not run the miniseries that they filmed on "The Kennedy Family" which has Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes playing John and Jackie.  I must admit my curiosity is aroused as to the "real" reason why the series is being pulled, and I wonder, yes, I'll be bold and say it, I wonder if someone in the Kennedy clan has something to do with the miniseries being cancelled.

I also wonder if the miniseries on "The Kennedy Family" is just being postponed,  and that the History Channel is actually pulling off a marketing gimmick to get people talking, (just like I am now,) about the show, and that when eventually the miniseries is shown, there will be a larger audience because of "renewed interest," well its possible,  isn't it?  This isn't my first time at the rodeo you know.

This year my GodDaughter and niece, yes, who else but Sally, will turn thirteen (13) years of age.  In other words, plainly and distinctly, Sally is becoming one of those most frightening and interesting creatures of the world,  Sally will become the dreaded TEENAGER.

Quite naturally,  Zac, Winter and I wish Sally well on this, her journey of discoverey and transition, but we also worry, which will do no good whatsoever, about some of the things that will surface and that we wish would remain buried.

I am referring to the world of drugs and alcohol, which, if they have already not come up in Sally's world, they will soon.  Zac, undoubtedly Sally's parents, Grandparents, Great-Grandmother, and I, or anyone else who knows Sally, knows that Sally will need to make very important decisons that will not always be popular, nor easy to make.

I just read yesterday of an annual survey of high school students across the United States (U.S.) that found that binge drinking and cigarette smoking among teens is on the decline, (great!,)  but drug use is on the rise (BOO, and BOO BIG TIME!)

In the past year, there was a two (2) percent drop in high school seniors who reported binge drinking defined in this study and consuming five (5) or more drinks in a row in the two (2) weeks prior to the study.  At the same time, marijuana use increased for all age groups.  Ectasy use also appears to be on the rise among teens, as does the rate of high school seniors injecting heroin, these facts really frighten and confuse me!

First, why the increase in marijuana smoking, injecting heroin, and doing ectasy?  Are these drugs easier to get, or have we become so complacent about the use of these "recreational drugs" that we forget the realization on how dangerous partaking in any of these substances is?,  I mean, come on everyone, if our children decide to drink or do drugs, wake up and see the horrors of the roads ahead for them!!!  We are no longer talking about our children going on a trip to Disneyland, we are talking about our children going to hell in a handbasket!!!!  And drinking, or rather binge-drinking is just as big a  concern for me, as are the drugs, if not bigger concern!!!!

Second, what the heck are we doing?,  or not doing to combat the drugs and the alcohol?   Clearly, the laws, all the promos done on televison to deter drugs and drinking, intelligence?, and all the hard-core, plain facts are not winning the war, things are getting worse,  so what should we be doing?  I don't have the answer(s) but I put the question out to you because maybe you could shed some insight to a solution for this very real and frightening problem, something to think about, isn't it?, even if you do not have a teenager!!!!!

I would like to extend a salute today to two new friends I have made on this trip, those friends being the owner of the house that Zac, Winter and I are renting, her name is Ann, a truly terrific, happening person,  and Ann's real estate agent, named Sarita, a dynamic, friendly and energetic woman.   I shall simplify descriptions of these women by saying that both of these women belong in the VA VA VOOM category, get the picture?,  want to borrow my camera?

Recently, Ann went to Colarado with her grandchildren for a brief visit, but, unfortunately, due to an unexpected six feet of snow in Atlanta, Georgia, Ann's trip was longer than she expected.  Ann did have to stay in Atlanta overnight because of the snow, and it is the subject of snow that is giving me a little bit of concern.

Zac,  Winter and I are scheduled to go home this week-end, however, we may need to alter our plans should inclement weather dictate it, naturally, we are paying close attention to weather reports surrounding the regions in Canada, and the driving routes that we need to take for our trip home.  I expect that it is in the mountains of Tennessee and Kentucky where Zac, Winter and I will face hazardous weather and driving.

This morning, while I was rowing on CC, I watched Bette Midler's Home Box Office special, entitled "The Showgirl Must Go On," and I absolutely loved it.  A couple of times I had to stop rowing because I was laughing, and singing.  If you get an opportunity to view this special, do watch it, when you see a Bette Midler special, you really cannot help but feel good, Bette is so warm, genuine, and happy, that it is infectious.

Have I ever told you that a few years back, I met Bette Midler on Bay Street, in Toronto, while I was on my way to the Plaza Cinema to see the movie "Rounders?"  I'll ne
ver forget Bette's and my meeting, Miss M. asked me how I recognized her, to which I answered simply, candidly, "Your Face!"

Actually, I first noticed Miss Midler as she was walking down Bay Street, and I was walking up the street; Bette Midler has a specific way of walking that demands and attracts your attention.  Regardless of how I ended up talking to Bette Midler, we met, and that, for me, was one of my great moments,  as I am a huge, huge fan of the superstar!

Okay, sports fans, its time for me to transfer writings and switch gears to writing "The Lottery," I'm so pleased that this short story is going well,  I can't wait to finish it.

Have a good day!

Desperate HousewivesImage via Wikipedia
I am now starting this work week a little disappointed as for the second week in a row, last night I missed watching two of my very favourite television shows, "Desperate Housewives" and "Brothers and Sisters."

These days I resemble a water fountain as water keeps spurting from my legs due to the excess fluid in my legs that is caused from side effects of depomedrol, which all of you know is liquid prednisone.

I'm sure all of you will pick up that going back home is quite prevalent on my mind, especially if you note the title of today's post, wait a second, mink coats are also synonymous with Florida, what was I thinking (not) of?

You will not be getting a very long post today, as, yup, it happened again, I lost a post that I had spent the last two hours creating, I actually think it was some of my better writing, I guess it was not meant to be because it is now gone.  Yes, I know, I forgot to make a copy of it while I was writing it earlier, I know I should do this every time I write something of significance, but I forgot and am now paying the price.  Drat, my luck, and on a Monday!

Earlier, I spent the morning surfing the net for interesting articles and I came across an article that documented what jobs may lead to divorce.  Obviously, the very first one is/was jobs of "entertainers/celebrities/atheletes."  I do not think that I need to go into any explanation on why these jobs are on the list, it should be patently obvious.

"Helping Professions" jobs were second on the list and these are jobs of home health aides, nurses, and massage therapists, long hours and stress were the contributing factors of why these jobs may lead to divorce.

Another job that can cause problems in a marriage is "hospitality workers," these jobs contain:  baggage porters, concierges, and bartenders.  Irregular work hours in this job is cited as the main cause for discourse among a couple, the hours, plus the fact that hospitality workers are vulnerable to temptation on the job in the form of co-workers and patrons, hmmm. I'm not surprised by this fact it explains why some people get better tips on some days, yes indeed.

Unfortunately, there is alot of discourse for people in a marriage who are employed in the "law enforcement" industry, the great stress that one carries doing this job is very destructful, are you paying attention Lily and Muta Roo?

Last on the list, but not least, are people who are "less educated"  and "low-wage workers."  It is documented that women, who have college degrees are more likely to work outside the home and this seems to have a very stabilizing effect on the home, on the opposite side, uneducated women tend to work in the home, they don't have careers and this causes problems in the marriage.  The report did not say, but it should have included men in their findings as well.

I had a rather successful day yesterday in my writing, but my short story of "The Lottery" has now taken a turn that I didn't see coming.  I really do have a complicated but fertile imagination, let me tell you, I think that is why I love writing so much.  Anything can happen to any of the characters you create which I find very powerful and enriching, I can make the difference between a happy, sad, realistic storyline and I really do love the challenge of it all.  Some days are better than others, you understand.

Did you know that people who eat healthfully, exercise regularly, and do not smoke have a significantly lower risk of age-related degenerative changes in the eyes.  Combined, these factors decreased risk of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) by over seventy (70) percent in a recent study.  AMD is most common among people seventy-five (75) and older and results in a loss of central vision that severely hampers the ability to read, recognize faces, and drive, among other things.

I get an eye examination every year and have fortunately not have had any significant changes to my eyes, other than having to get bifocals about seven (7) years ago.  Now, I do do everything on the list noted above, normally, but  these days I am not eating healthfully, I try to, however, once again the side effects of depomedrol induces severe and poor eating habits.  What is your story?

Yesterday, we brunched at the Gainesville Golf and Country Club.  All of us had a really good time, the food was not too expensive, there was plenty of variety of the the types of food, we got a discount on the children's food, (they tended to eat more than anyone else,) and everyone seemed to be satisfied.  The only sad factor was that, because Raphael was ill, Louise was not able to come with us, hopefully, we will get the pportunity to take her there on our next visit.

Okay, as I mentioned earlier, this post would not be long because it is a second version and I am a little demotivated to continue.  In addition, there is the strong possibility that this post will not look as finalized as I would like, because if it takes too much time, I'm not going to do it, today, that is.  And that's me.

You are probably going to work today, and for some of you, you are returning to work after being off on holiday.  You may feel a little down, do not let this overwhelm you.  Remember, another holiday, Easter, is just around the corner, the days are getting longer, it is getting lighter, longer, each passing day, so pack up your bags and hit the road Seasonal Affective Disorder, (SAD,) you are in all likelihood in good health, you have a job to go to, and you are liked, at the very least, you are liked by me, so do not get down because you are going back to work today.   Count your blessings, of which you have many, and make the most of the day.

All the best.

Snowy Sunday in Canada, Super Sunday in Gainesville, Florida!

Date:                                                             Sunday, January 9th, 2011
Word of the Day:                                           sockdolager(sok\DOL\uh\jer); a decisive reply, argument

Weight:                                                         206 pounds
Goal:                                                             lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose:                                              74 pounds
Waist Size:                                                    41 inches
Days left before we return to Canada:              six (6)
Rowing Duration:                                           sixty-minutes (67) fourteen (14) seconds

I had trouble getting started with my rowing today, I couldn't find a pair of socks that were comfortable on my feet and legs, my skin in those areas has become so sensitive that anything touching them sets off a lot of pain and uncomfortability, nevertheless, I was able to get on a pair, it just took some time, as everything does for me these days.

The news in the world is troubling today, that terrible shooting in Arizona which happened yesterday and has resulted in the deaths of six (6) people and wounding many others certainly is making
The Social NetworkImage via Wikipedia
the headlines, but I'm not sure if the right headlines are being made.

Some of the headlines report that this happened in the United States because of their gun-control laws, and that it could never happen in Canada, both of these headlines are erroneous and ridiculous, there have been shootings in Canada, too many to list, actually, and whether or not a country has a law on gun-control is irrelevant to the fact that somebody sick was out of their mind, and intent on killing.  When someone is this ill they will find a modus operandi, don't ask me how I know, I just do!!!

The truly bizarre and most outrageous of the headlines that I read though is the one that said the shootings were politically motivated, I'm telling you that it did not happen because somebody was Democratic and not Republican, that truly is/was the most inane headline that I happened upon, but wish I missed, I can't believe people get paid for writing that garbage!

I know that all of you out there probably feel a little like me, and want to extend our sympathies to the families of the victims, and hope that this senseless tragedy will draw to an end without any further mishap or wrongdoing, yes I know, it is not the end of the story, it never is.

Another news item, not so tragic is that the National Society of Film Critics has picked the movie "The Social Network" as the best picture of the year.   I have not seen "The Social Network"  movie, but I am now wondering if I should put it on my "must see" list, if any of you have seen it, please tell me what you thought of it!

I also have some more bad news, at least for all of us Canadians, surfing and downloading charges are going to rise as two Internet companies, Primus and Shaw have announced plans to impose new fees and caps of Internet charges, the other Internet companies will surely follow suit.  I think this is just awful as those companies already make a horrendous profit, but they can get away with it as they know they have people exactly where they want them, people have become so dependent on the Internet.  I say we should all march back to the library!

Zac and I are scheduled to go for brunch today at the Gainesville Golf and Country Club with my brother Biff, and his family, including, Louise's parents, Mr. Spring, Dina Spring,  and Louise's grandmother, Vivian, but remember, we call her Grandmama.  Unfortunately,  we already will not have a full party as my nephew, Raphael, has a temperature of one hundred and three (103) and will need to stay home in bed, alas, one of his parents will also have to stay with him.

Have I told you that I now believe that my computer is in cahoots with the cleaning lady of Friday, (Karen)  to drive me crazy and/or cause me endless frustration in bringing on some kind of breakdown, I mean it.

For some time now, my computer has many periods wherein it slows down so much, actually coming to complete stops, while I am writing my blog.  This seems to happen the most time whilst I'm in the process of finalizing the post with bolding, italicizng and underlining words and sentences.

I do not like to publish my post unfinished so I have been putting up with all of the stops, but I am getting near the breaking point, as I don`t know why the computer is behaving this way.  As you may remember, my computer is still basically new, I just purchased "The Camden Plus" in the summer, and cannot comprehend for the life of me why it is doing this slowing down when I am writing.

I have never had this problem before with any of my computers, and I`m wondering if it has some kind of virus on it, which then would lead me to believe, that my computer was in fact, not new, but one that Dell decided to try and unload.  I know my conclusions are a little out there, but I can`t explain what else would cause this slowdown, do any of you out there have any suggestions?

I was talking to my sister Judy yesterday and she told me that Toronto has recently got hit with quite a snowstorm  snow is everywhere, and it is quite heavy in spots.  Be careful out there people, it is so easy to fall and if you are getting on in years, like I am, you need to be extra careful because if you have a fall, it may take longer than you realize to get over it.

I had a fall on the ground about four (4)  years and it landed me in the hospital for two (2) weeks so I do know of what I speak, again, be careful out there and allow yourselves extra time when going some place, remember, it is better to arrive late than not to arrive at all, not that I'm advocating tardiness you understand.

Zac, Winter and I went to my brother Biff's house yesterday, around noon to support the "bake sale" that was being done by my kids, Sally, Jessie, and Raphael.  Louise, my sister-in-law was also there to help out the children.  Zac and I not only donated some extra money to the children's cause, but we also bought brownies, a cake, lemonade and home-made pretzels.

Shortly after we arrived to the bake sale, Raphael had to leave to go to his basketball game and then Jessie also left to go to a birthday party, well, at least Sally was around to keep us company, which she did nicely, I also had a lovely chat with Louise.

Are any of you aware that researchers say that because smoke seeps through walls and shared ventilation systems, children who live in apartments, where no one in the household smokes are more likely to be exposed to tobacco smoke than those who live in stand-alone houses, how about that?  I think this fact is rather enlightening, as one would think, and quite naturally, that people would be safe from tobacco smoke, especially if nobody in the household smokes, great, now we have to worry about vents!  What next?????

This fact was determined this way by measuring levels of cotinine, the major metabolite of nicotine that indicates levels of nicotine intake, in blood samples from five thousand (5,000) children.  Overall, eighty-four. point five (84.5) percent of the children living in apartments had been exposed to tobacco smoke, compared to seventy-nine point six (79.6) percent of children in attached houses and seventy point three (70.3) percent in stand-alone houses, so just put that in your pipe and don't smoke it!!!!

It is now time for me to get ready for today's brunch and to try and look half-ways decent, this is such a big task for me, I'm exhausted just thinking about it,  oh well, maybe people won't notice my appearance so much because of exceptionally dazzling personality, that's just a joke Muta Roo!!!!

Take care and enjoy the day, I'm coming back home to Canada soon!

Word of the Day:                                       katzenjammer(KAT\suhn\jam\er); the discomfort and illness experienced as the aftereffects of excessive drinking; hangover

Rowing Duration:                                      sixty-nine (69) minutes, twelve (12)) seconds

Seven is supposed to be a lucky number, but when that is the number of days left that determines your vacation is over, or that one has to face the dreads of the season of Winter, snow, slush, ice, and the cold, oh, the bitter cold and wind, well then seven does not feel especially lucky, well, at least not good luck.

Okay, so how come you didn't make a comment on yesterday's post?, not you Marta, I can always count on you, but the rest of you, I mean, how long would it take for you to say something back to me, I am interested in your thoughts as well, please consider contributing a commet. You don't have to do it everyday, but now and then, why not?

Speaking of yesterday, I reported that one person had won the fifty-million dollar lottery, I was inaccurate and thanks to Marta, who corrected me, I can now accurately state that it was a group of people that struck it rich in the fifty-million dollar lottery, and, I'm sure we will be hearing more about this lottery win, or was it a win? Hmmm.

Well,  I ended up not going anywhere last night, no basketball game and no gymnastics competition.  I fell asleep shortly after my dinner, which was delicious, and woke up in the living room at two o'clock this morning. Naturally, being so late, I went to bed!

Be on your guard everyone in the Toronto vicinity,  and surrounding areas, as it has been reported that flu activity is picking up in some parts of Canada,  please note that the predominant strain in this country is H3N2 instead of the pandemic H1N1 virus that dominated the health-care scene a year ago.

Dr. Irene Armstrong of Toronto Public Health says influenza appears to be hitting hard earlier this season in Toronto, compared to other regular non-pandemic flu years.  The number of lab-confirmed cases so far is 515, she said, compared to an average of about 81 cases per year at this point from 2004-05 to 2008-09.   Five deaths have been recorded.   "We know our hospitals are busy,"  Armstrong said in an interview Tuesday.  "We're seeing outbreaks in long-term care homes, and especially over the last couple of weeks."

Outbreaks have been reported at long-term care facilities in Winnipeg and other centres as well, with would-be visitors warned to stay away if they're coughing and experiencing other flu symptoms.   Dr. Ken Scott of the Public Health Agency of Canada said flu is fairly widespread in one region of Manitoba and there's localized activity in other parts of Manitoba, Alberta, Quebec and Nova Scotia.   "We didn't have some reporting from some of the jurisdictions over the holiday season, but in the week just prior to that there was a fair bit of activity in the Windsor to Montreal corridor," noted Scott, senior medical adviser for Infectious Diseases and Prevention Control.

Statistics compiled by the national agency as of Tuesday show 4,112 samples tested, with 927 showing up positive for flu.   These don't necessarily include the most up-to-date numbers from the provinces and territories.   Furthermore, Armstrong explained these would only be the "tip of the iceberg" and most cases are never lab-confirmed.

Scott said the predominant strain in Canada and the United States is H3N2 influenza A, while H1N1 is "not a big player in Canada this year," representing less than 10 per cent of isolates.   By comparison, Great Britain's flu activity is almost all the H1N1 pandemic strain, he said.   Scott surmised it could be because their H1N1 vaccine uptake last year was about eight per cent, much less than the 45 per cent in Canada.   He said the good news is that the flu shot this year can protect against both.  But there are concerns in the health community that fewer people are opting for a flu shot this year.   For example, Armstrong said 230,000 people were vaccinated with pandemic H1N1 vaccine at the city's public clinics last flu season from Oct. 26 to Jan. 31.

This flu season, fewer than 26,000 people have received shots at the Toronto clinics, which is even down about 20 per cent from a regular seasonal flu year, she said.   "There's certainly been a lot of speculation about people reflecting on their experience last year with the pandemic H1N1 influenza," she said, referring to widespread public education campaigns and media attention to flu shots a year ago.

"We had a mild pandemic ... So I think it's sort of fallen off people's radar." Scott said H3N2 has a predilection for the young and the old, pregnant women and people who have underlying medical conditions.   Flu seasons with H3N2 tend to cause more illnesses than the seasonal H1N1 (non-pandemic) virus, he noted, adding that weather could also be a factor in how the flu season goes. Scott said flu kills between 2,000 and 8,000 Canadians every year, and he recommended that everybody get a flu shot.

Armstrong agreed, and both public health officials said the messages of the pandemic flu campaigns can help now, too.   "If you're sick with flu symptoms, you should stay home from work or stay home from school," Armstrong advised.   "You don't want to go out and risk infecting friends or co-workers or other people out in the community, so it's best to stay home and rest, really, and treat your symptoms." Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle aches, extrem

I feel that upon my return to our great country of Canada, I'm going to get hit with some aspect of the flu, my rationale is because my immunity is currently low (due to all of the problems I've been having with my asthma,) I'm a target to get sicker, and with my additional weight gain, I make a pretty big target.   Don't worry, I retain my inner beauty, it's just rather hard to find these days because of the extra blubber caused by the depomedrol, and you all are familiar with the effects that happen to me with liquid prednisone, you do remember, don't you?!

With regard to the word of the day, do any of you out there remember the comic strip "The Katzenjammer Kids?"  The comic strip was specifically written about two twins, two male hellions who rebelled against authority, especially their parents.   The twins lived in a neighbourhood of children who all seemed to be a little devilish and the comic str

ip was not only very funny, but also very popular.  I loved the `strip`and always looked forward to buying the next edition, did you read it?

For sake of reference, I may be a litte wrong in some of reflection of "The Katzenjammer Kids" as I was just a little boy when this comic strip was published, but Ido know that "The Katzenjammer Kids" was made into some kind of television show, or a reasonable facsimile, it just had a different title, like many other things/vehicles that get turned into television programs.

Yesterday afternoon I had a rather mind-boggling experience, it truly was, and what makes it rather exceptional is that it happened on a rather ordinary day when nothing out of the ordinary should have happened, but then again, isn`t that when exceptional things tend to happen.

Anyway, I begin my anecdote: Around two o`clock pm. yesterday, a cleaning lady came over to the house were renting in Gainesville, Florida to help tidy up the house, the owner of the house thought that since I was not feeling well, she would help us out with keeping the house clean by sending this cleaning lady. The cleaning lady, I'm sure now, was from outer space, she really was out there.

The cleaning lady's name was Karen and upon her arrival, I was in the process of recording a program from the television onto a digital video device (dvd.)   Immediately after, hello`s and other little formalities Zac instructed Karen that all she needed to do was the vacuuming and cleaning the washrooms.  Zac, at this time, also instructed Karen not to go anywhere near the televsion set and the panasonic recorder that is directly underneath the television because of the recordings that were presently going on.

Shortly after, I too then met Karen, and just like Zac, I, too, requested Karen not go anywhere near the television, nor the Panasonic recorder directly underneath the set, so Zac`s request was not all Karen heard on this subject, she can`t or would not be able to claim ignorance!   But, it didn`t matter, I know now, Karen was being controlled by aliens out there in the universe who want to harm me.

For some reason beyond both Zac and myself, Karen chose to ignore Zac`s and my request of not going near the television, and the recorder, and subsequently did in fact touch the television and the panasonic recorder, damaging my recording and ruining the entire disc in the process.   This all happened when Karen, in good faith, decided that she could clean around the television and the recorder without causing any harm.

Now,  there is not much one can do after damage has been done, except try to learn a lesson for future reference, but upon learning what Karen had done,  I expressed my upset, dismay and anger and let Karen know that I was disappointed that what had happened did not need to happen, and I wanted an explanation as to why this happened, when it could have been, and should have been, so easily avoided?

Karen said that she didn`t really know how she did it whilst she was cleaning, except that it did happen. Her casualness towards everything fulled my upset,  I mean it really was troubling that Karen didn't seem to care too much of the damage she had done, probably because of ignorance, but,  I think that upset me more than anything.

For those of you who know me, know that I do not pick on people without provocation, and even when I am provoked, I always, always try to consider the other person's feelings.  When this event happened, my initial reaction was shock and I did yell at Karen, "What have you done?"

A few moments later, after I calmed down, a little, I did apologize to Karen for my yelling, I mean, I do not think Karen deliberately chose to ruin my recording and the disc itself, unless she really was operating because of a direction from a source of outer space.

For your complete information and to understand my perspective, the recording was just not one television program.  First, it was the worktime of three days effort to cull programs, and films that are seldom run on television.  In addition, the programs are not available on dvd, or any other format for that matter, and I have not seen any of the subjects that I had successfully recorded onto this disc, in about ten (10) years, and that is no exaggeration, it probably has been longer since I last viewed those programs.

The second fact is that Karen damaging the disc, (ruining it, is a more accurate statement,) was completely unnecessary as Karen had been told to not to go anywhere near the television, or the recorder, by not only Zac, but I told her at least two times.

I think you will understand my upset, I now don't have copies of films that can't be purchased elsewhere, perhaps I'm just not meant to have them, but if that is so, then why was I able to record them in the first place? Oh goodness, Efrem, don't start down that track of "Fatalism" or you will just be asking questions that don't have satisfactory answers; my questions are not new, they have been asked for centuries and I suspect that nobody has ever really been satisfied with what answers are presented, that's just the way it is, or was, or will be!

Zac and I were really confused as to why Karen did what she did. Do any of these things happen to other people, do they happen to you, or is it just me??????  I do wonder what is it with some people, I still am rather mixed up about it all. Regardless, yesterday happened, and not much more can be said on that subject, I just wanted you to know about my troubling and perplexing afternoon that happened on an ordinary day.

In a different vein, a celebrity that gets my curiosity is in trouble: Zsa Zsa Gabor may not survive operation, doctors are now reporting that Zsa Zsa Gabor's has a less than 50 per cent chance of surviving an operation on her leg.

The 93-year-old actress' husband Prince Frederic von Anhalt has been warned by doctors putting her under anaesthetic to have surgery on her limb could be risky, he told gossip website TMZ.

Prince Frederic is expected to make a decision on whether his wife should undergo the operation later Friday but has been told Zsa Zsa could alternatively undergo three months of antibiotics, though the medication could destroy her kidneys.

The 93-year-old actress was first rushed into the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles on Sunday after a lesion in her leg began to show signs of gangrene.  Initially it was planned for part of the limb to be amputated, but her representative John Blanchette confirmed that may no longer be necessary.

Speaking on Tuesday he said: "Over the next two days, the doctors are treating Zsa Zsa Gabor with powerful antibiotics in the hope that they will affect the lesion on her lower leg."  Zsa Zsa's health has been in decline since she fell out of bed at her home in Bel Air in July while watching an episode of her favourite television (TV) show 'Jeopardy'.  Zsa Zsa had a hip replacement a few days later but remained in hospital for three weeks.  She was then placed back in medical care in November after complaining of a pain her leg, which a doctor diagnosed as a blood clot.   Let us all include Miss Zsa Zsa in our prayers, she is something of a legend, not in my class, but close to it, hehe.

I hope you all have a wonderful day, I need to get ready to go to a bake sale.  Take care, and enjoy yourselves.

Goal:                                                      lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose:                                      74 pounds

Rowing Duration:                                  sixty-six (66) minutes, six (6) seconds, how frightening, sixsixsix (666), is that bad luck or just the devil?

Once again, I am not doing a whole lot of time on CC., but I am doing the best I can whilst on the blasted piece of torture, that's how I feel about exercise, I hate it and it is a form of texture.   I really don't understand those people that say they love exercise and I have to wonder what kind of medication they take, I mean its easy to comprehend why they take it, they're crazy!!!!!

When one is confined to activities surrounding the bed, which is necessitated to keep

one's pair of feet elevated higher than one's heart, there is not a lot that can be done to amuse one's self, or pass the time other than watching television, surfing the net via the computer, reading, and sleeping.   However, if one, such as I, has a rule that governs that only sleeping shall be done in the bedroom, than a day can seem quite long indeed if you need to spend the entire day in your bedroom, that is the kind of day that I had mostly yesterday.

While laying down with my feet elevated, I did break down and watch some television, but I tried to restrict myself with this exception alone, and eventually I transferred myself to other parts of the house wherein I could resume any and all of the actiivites that I like to do in the home.   Zac was not happy that I left the bedroom,  consequently ceasing my feet from being elevated, but come on, keeping one's feet elevated for the entire day is a little on the boring side!

In spite of zero takers in my project to recruit readers for my writing, I continued with my writing of a short story of a couple who win the lottery.  I came up with this idea recently after reading in the news that there was one Canadian who won a lottery prize of fifty million dollars.

Who among us has not dreamed of winning alot of money and what it would be like to have such a windfall, how our lives would change, what we hope would not change, and the million other things that could, or would transpire with winning a lottery.

To date,  I'm having fun writing the story, but I'm not absolute 100 per cent sure as to the final direction that I want the story to take, you know, happy ending versus sad ending, ideal version versus realistic version versus boring version.  I could go on for a very long time you know, but I won't, I will state that on day when I wake up, I will decide how to finish the story, hehe, we'll see, actually, all of us will not see.

The only ones who will get to see the outcome of Olive and O'Neal's lottery win will be those that decide to climb aboard my project and say, "Today, I'm going to make a difference!" "Today, I'm going to show my support to an up and coming novelist,  while at the same time,  I will contribute money towards a charity that will one day put an end to asthma,  and other chronic lung diseases, today, I'm going to make a difference because I can make a difference!!!"  Come on Lily, you be the first to join in, and then get that Corporate Records Specialist and Muta Roo aboard!

Speaking of the lottery, I just happened to notice this blurb yesterday about a psychic who won a million dollar lottery, yes a person with the name of Ocean (isn't that a great name?, absolutely perfect for a perfume, well Cosmo Kramer of Seinfeld thinks it is,) Kinge, who is forty-five (45) years old and lives in West London, predicted that she would win the lottery, how nice, I wonder if MS. Kinge can see money in my cards, hmmm.

Would you want to know the future?  I really don't think I would because you have to take the bad with the good and I'm not sure I would want to know the bad, it could be very, very bad, no not me, I'll settle for knowing what is and not what will be.  How about you?

Did I tell you that Zac and I paid a brief visit with Louise's Grandmother, Vivian yesterday.  Vivian is ninety-six (96) years old and now resides in a nursing home here in Gainesville, Florida.  We had a nice visit with Vivian, who we call, Grandmama, and we chatted about all kinds of things.

Grandmama has a special fondness for Zac as he once was able to give her advice that helped her feel better; at least Grandmama feels that Zac made her feel better, no other doctor, at that time, seemed to be able to fix whatever problem she was experiencing.  Good for Zac.

My brother Biff telephoned me last night, he was in an awfully good mood, anyway, Biff just wanted to tell me that there is a gymnastics competition tonight at the University of Florida, between The University of Florida, and some other good team.  Biff knows I love gymnastics, but since no one else is going, and because of my health problems, I don't think I will attend, but Zac has said that he will take me if I want to go, what a nice guy Zac can be.

In addition, my nephew Raphael will be playing in another basketball game tonight, and if I go anywhere, I think I would rather go to the basketball game and show my support to my nephew.  There probably will not be too much more opportunity to go and show my support to Raphael in this manner so if I'm feeling up to it, tonight I will be going to a basketball game.

There is no special relevance to the picture of the dog, I just thought it was a nice picture and thought I would include it, I love dogs!

I don't have alot to talk about today so I thought I would publish now and surprise you with an early post, or should I say, earlier post from that of recently.  Anyway, enjoy, and as always, have a good day.
