Word of the Day: vellicatte; to touch (a body part) lightly so as to execute the surface nerves
and cause uneasiness, laughter, or spasmodic movements
Weigfht: 228 pounds
Goal: lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose: 96 pounds
Rowing Duration: 47 minutes 19 seconds
As you will note by the rowing duration, I had a slight setback. I did not want to stop rowing, but, it was raining quite hard, and there was lots of thunder and lightning, so I thought the safe thing to do was to give up the ghost and stop. Besides, I was soaking wet from the rain, the wind blew it on me even though I was inside the screened-in patio. I hope I will go back later today and try again to continue with my rowing routine, but, I am not hopeful as I have lost the momentum, forty-seven minutes is not bad, and I am not kicking myself over this setback, perhaps I can make it up tomorrow.
Tomorrow, the big day. I weigh in, and I'm kind of nervous as I have been putting away more food than I normally would consume, it hasn't been bad food, but I have to remember, and try to eat only small portions, its just Zac's cooking is so darn good.
There are a lot of things to do today to get ready for Brian's visit. Beds have to be made, dishes washed, new towels set out, that kind of thing. Winter could also use a good brushing, I have been rather lazy in this area, and it is overtime that she gets a good brushing. Winter does not mind being groomed, as at the end of the combing session, she gets a dog treat,, and Winter is absolutely crazy for these cookies.
Gee nothing is going right for me today. I set up my dvd recorder to tape a movie entitled 'Summertime' starring the one and only Miss Katharine Hepburn. I have been waiting for this movie to come back to the Turner Classic Movie (TCM) channel for some time, and what happens?, the recorder forgets to come on when the movie started, and then decides half-way through the movie to turn on. Yes, I set it up properly, perhaps the storm had something to do with the delay of the recording, I don't know, but, I guess I will have to wait for another time to have this movie part of my collection. I suppose I could always buy Summertime, I do like to have original copies.
I saw a preview of a movie that I have never seen, and would like to watch, it is an Otto Preminger film and is called 'Anatomy of a Murder.' Have any of you ever seen it?
Zac keeps after me to talk more about movies, he feels that is my specialty. Zac also believes I have insight to many films, I don't think I I do, but I really enjoy watching and collecting movies.
In a way, movies saved me from becoming a total wreck of a human being. I used to go to the movies alot, and would imagine myself becoming a movie star. I liked the idea of being someone else, and getting to visit so many exciting places, not to mention having an exciting life. Anything would have been better than the life I was living. My life was anything but exciting, I think turbulent best describes my life as a child, but that is not what we are here to discuss, today I'm talking movie.
If you check the list of my favourite twenty-five movies, you will find the film 'All About Eve.' I do not have an all-time favourite movie, but 'All About Eve' comes very close to taking the prize. Actually, the year it played, which is 1950, 'All About Eve,' took the major Academy Awards, and deservingly so.
'All About Eve' stars Bette Davis, who just happens to be one of my favourite actresses, Anne Baxter, not a favourite, because she played Eve so well that I don't trust her, and in a very memorable cameo, the luscious, amazing actress, Miss Marilyn Monroe. If the part had been larger, Marilyn would have walked off with the movie, which she nearly does anyway.
'All About Eve' is a movie about an aging actress named Margo Channing (Bette Davis,) and a young actress named Eve Harrington (Anne Baxter) who insinuates herself into the life and lives of people associated with Margo Channing, isn't that a great name?
'All About Eve' was directed by Mr. Joseph L Mankiewicz whose Grand Nephew, Ben, shares the hosting on TCM. I could go on, and on, about this movie, but why not read about it in Wikipedia, which does a much better job than I, or better still, watch the movie.
Well since the rowing did not work so well in this early am., to keep busy, I did the dishes, and put on a laundry. I couldn't write my blog early in today's am., as I guess the creative juices get stirred up by the rowing process, and since I only did that small-time this morning, it too was a bust, and ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-ta, as my friend Carmen had a habit of saying.
If at first you don't succeed, give up, no, try, try, again. I wasn't able to do two hours, when I got back on Cruella at seven am., but I did manage rowing for an additional 75 minutes, so including the 47 minutes from my earlier rowing attempt at three o'clock am., my workout total time was just over the two hour mark, which gave me a healthy workout, alas, I would have preferred doing it all at once, but that's the way the ball bounces.
Okay, I keep losing my internet connection and this is really frustrating and annoying me. I believe this is a sign, we are always sent signs on practically everrthing that goes on in our lives, and I think I better log off before I lose everything, not just this post.

Forever Friday
Date: Friday August 20th, 2010
Word of the Day: polymath; a person of great or varied learning; one acquainted with various
subjects of study
Weight: 228 pounds
Goal: lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose: 96 pounds
Rowing Duration: 120 minutes, 22 seconds
Well its Friday, finally, and I can almost see me stepping on that scale and getting my weight. On Sunday am., maybe, you can remember that the hour will be upon me, and give me a drumroll, please.
I always try and remember to use my manners, it seems that there are many people out there that do no feel this is important, but, I do, so I try to set a good example.
I have made a decision that when I've reached my goal, and have lost the desired weight, I am going to write a diet book, like so many others before me. Why not? Maybe, I will be able to provide some insight to you, and then, you too, will lose any extra weight you may have, or perhaps you will just start a better lifestyle to maintain better health.
Today, I am also starting a campaign to get me to be the next judge on American Idol, as I think it is high time they get an ordinary person to be on the panel, so do what you can to get me elected to that panel. I promise I won't forget you! Actually, since our country no longer has this competition, I think the United States, and Canada should merge the competitions, and call it North American Idol, that way, there will be no fuss about having a Canadian judge part of the forum
Zac informed me yesterday that my posts (blog) have a likability factor, I appreciated the encouragement. Zac said that my writing is easy to read, although it could use some polishing. Maybe in time, this will happen, or if all else fails, I'll send it to a shoe shiner.
I do appreciate all of the encouragement that I get from you, and not a day goes by wherein someone doesn't send me a note to tell me that I'm doing well on Cruella, and that I should keep the exercise going.! It means alot to me that there are people out there cheering me on, so today I thank you.
Encouragement really does help to keep me motivated on Cruella, especially when my legs start to tire and my breathing is becoming more and more laboured, I am able to go on, because I don't want you to be disappointed, most of all, I do not want to be discouraged from the road to better health.
Well Mavis is leaving today and Zac's brother Brian is arriving. I enjoy it alot when Brian comes to the lake for a visit, he is always vey helpful , and uses his carpentry skills to fix things up here that need attention.
Only yesterday, I chatted about the benefits of exercising early, well, I think I want to recant the benefit of having it cool outside, as I was cold today, and I don't think its a good thing to be in cold air when you are sweating profusely, and its probably harmful, is it?
It is so much later now when the sun finally rises, this is the time of year that I get sad, as I know that it will soon be time for us to leave. Alas, there are other things to look forward to, such as going to Gainesville, Florida, and seeing my kids, well they're really my nephew and nieces, but I call them my kids! Oh , and that means Thanksgiving is just around the corner, then Halloween, and ultimately, the big one, CHRISTMAS! I bet I just made your day.
It seems Christmas comes faster every year. This summer, I saw on television that there were places that were celebrating Summer Christmas, I couldn't believe it. Some of the retail stores had already put up the Xmas decorations, they said they were having Xmas sales, and there was even a Santa Claus sitting on his chair, and talking to the childen, and occasional adult.
Every time I see Santa Claus sitting on his chair, I think of the time, I believe it was two years ago, that my friend and I got in the line to see Santa, and finally, we both simultaneously sat on his lap, and had our picture taken. We received alot of strange looks, especially from Santa, but it was fun to do, and it really made a good memory.
One of the better ways to stay young is to be young at heart. I think we allow ourselves to get older, and I believe it is possible to reverse the aging trend by: keeping ourselves fit, not smoking, always using a sun block, even in the Winter-time, moisturizing the skin, associating with those people younger than ourselves, and if all else fails, getting a face-lift!!!!! Why the heck not if it makes you feel better?
Okay, my latest problem, I seem to have a slight injury that is impeding my exercise. The skin directly underneath the hem of my shorts has been impaired, it sort of resembles a blemished line or a scratch. The line is about six inches in length, red, and while I am rowing, the shorts press up against my thigh, and it is irratatingly painful. Now, Zac has recommended using fucidin, and to put vaseline on top of my thigh(the injured area) just before I row. This advice has helped some, but I am wondering if any of you have had similar injuries, and what you did to ameliorate it. Please help me with suggestions.
Yesterday, on the Today show, they showed a video clip of a bull that was inside an arena, then jumped over the fence, and into the stands where the people (audience) were, and proceeded to attack them. I noticed in the audience that there were quite alot of people wearing red T shirts, and maybe it was this that spurred the bull on to attack, but my goodness, life certainly can turn on a dime.
I love watching Oprah, and will be sad when her show finishes after this next season. I have learned so much from viewing Oprah, and I don't think there is an episode that I haven't enjoyed, and there are alot of episodes in twenty plus years.
Oprah has done so much for so many people. I don't understand why so many people feel such resentment towards her, I guess you really can't please everybody.
I have always read alot, but I know many people who did not, and are now reading, thanks to Oprah, and her book club. I don't always like her selections, but she has recommended a book or two that I have thoroughly enjoyed, and would not have picked up, if it wasn't for her recommendation. One book in particular, She's come undone, by Wally Lamb, was quite delightful, entertaining, enlightning, and I think it is a gem of a book, so if you haven't read it, do so!
For some reason, people like it when bad things happen to successful people. We just love to read in the Enquirer, and other news magazines of that ilk , that celebrities are in, or are experiencing trouble. Now, I don't know if this is because the magazine wouldn't sell if they printed true stories, as the truth is probably too boring, but whatever the reason is, I think it is a sad statement of our society, that we revel in other people's misfortune/misery, and I am just as guilty as you, but I do try and keep it to a bare minimum.
If I ever see something printed about me, and it is intrue, I will take the responsible (funny word for people that do this,) party to court, and sue their asses off!!! I mean it, stay off my roof!!
On that note, I think I will let you get to your weekend, have a great one, remember the Canadian National Exhibiton (CNE) opens today, which is indicative that summer is just about over, and I will get to my weekend.

The Thursday Teacher
Date: Thursday August 19th, 2010
Word of the Day: ruction; a disturbance, quarrel or row
Weight: 228 pounds
Goal: lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose: 96 pounds
Rowing Duration: 111 minutes, 20 seconds
My weigh-in day is fast approaching and I am hoping that FOUR will continue to be my lucky number.
There is nothing like knowing that you are doing yourself a favour by exercising, even if it is difficult to do at times. I choose to row, very early in the am. I'm talking about getting up at 2:30 am, getting dressed, brushing my teeth, selecting the music to exercise by, and then, finally getting on Cruella by three o'clock. I choose this time because nobody else, even Winter, is up at this time. I get easily distracted, and if I see anyone sitting on a lounge chair, watching television or eating a bag of salt and vinegar potato chips, well, it throws my entire concentration, and that will be it for my exercise that day. It is also alot cooler at three o'clock am., and I build up quite a bit of perspiration so I appreciate the cool air, and the occasional breezes that flow my way. The final benefit to exercising, and getting up before the rooster is that you get it over with, and you don't have to think about it all day!
I really gave myself a work-out today but I still never managed to get that rush of endorphins that people say you get after you have been working out for a long period of time. C'est la vie.
I just love to slurp that first gulp of cold ice-water after I have completed my 111 minutes and twenty seconds on Cruella, even if I don't have the strength to hold the glass.
Yesterday, I paid homage to nurses, today I would like to honour all the teachers that I have had the priveledge of learning from, in particular, two of my English (which just happened to be my favourite subject,) instructors, Miss Carol Collett and Miss Carla Silver.
I had the best teachers in the world, and I am so grateful to them for never giving up on me, nor the other thousands of students that they taught yearly.
There is something really wrong with our value system and our allocation of remuneration to teachers. They work so hard, and get so little appreciation, it boggles the mind. If you think of the millions of dollars that we give our sports people, I don't understand why we can't fork over a few more dollars to the teachers, after all, they are the ones that are educating the people that will govern our future. Okay, sure there are the handful of people that decided to teach because they thought it would be easy to do, not to mention the plum holidays they get on a regular basis, however, most people who teach devote their lives to education, and do it only because they really enjoy it. Believe me, teaching is one of the harder jobs to do, if you do it well. At my workplace, I teach a course in understanding, using, and building classification systems four times a year. I always look forward to this time I teach, and I say it is "doing my gig.", but trust me, it is work!
The case for my new computer arrived by mail yesterday, I hope this is indicative that the computer will arrive soon. I chose the colour purple for my new computer, because I not only loved that movie, but it is my niece Jessie's favourite colour. One day, if she wants it, my niece Jessie will be President of the United States!!!
All of my nieces and nephews are pretty terrific and I am so fortunate to be their Uncle. Sometimes, I wish I had experienced being a father, but since this didn't happen, I try to be the best uncle that I possibly can be, and you know, being an uncle is enough work for me, so maybe it is just as well that I never became a father. God knows what he is doing but he really does work in mysterious ways.
For the life of me, I can't understand why the subject of God gets people so upset. It is my decision to be a Christian, and as God has been so good to me, I really am a very blessed man, I like to honour him. If you don't like it, tough!!!!
Late last night, I watched the movie, 'Nobody's Fool' starring Paul Newman. I first saw this movie at the Plaza Cinema which was located at Yonge and Bloor Streets in the concourse of the Hudson's Bay building. I told you about my condition wherein I remember the name of every cinema for all the movies I have seen.
Anyway, 'Nobody's Fool' is a movie that I quite like, and I always enjoy seeing Jessica Tandy, who is a co-star in the movie, but it is a movie that was clearly written for Paul Newman.
I think Paul Newman was one of the last, what I call, real movie star. I don't think there is a Paul Newman movie that I don't enjoy seeing, and I think Mr. Newman certainly deserved winning more than one oscar. The Academy of motion pictures and sciences, or whatever else they are called, the people who bestow honorary oscars, could have, and should have, awarded Paul Newman the Irving Thalberg memorial award for all of his contributions, and the tremendous charity work he did with all of those salad dressings money going towards the poor.
I met Jessica Tandy one evening when Zac and I were in New York attending the theatre. We were going to see a play entitled 'Lettice and Lovage' which starred Maggie Smith, whom I adore and worship. Lettice and Lovage was a great vehicle for Miss Maggie, and she was awarded a Tony for her performance. It was richly deserved, and ironically, Jessica Tandy presented it to her. Anyway, while going into the theatre, I was standing in the lobby beside Miss Tandy and her husband. Now, I am not one to shy away from celebrities, and as Miss Tandy had just won the academy award for best actress, I congratulated her on her win. Jessica Tandy was very gracious, and thanked me, then told me she was so glad I liked the movie, 'Driving Miss Daisy.' I don't know what makes me say the things I say, but I told the recent oscar winner that I actually hated the movie but I liked and appreciated her performance. Jessica, looking a little stunned and startled at my bluntness, collected herself, and then asked me where I was from, to which I promptly and proudly responded, Canada! Miss Tandy then gave a wink and smile to her husband, Hume Cronyn who is also Canadian. The story is not quite over yet, inside the theatre, who should be sitting in our row, and beside me, but the lucky Miss Jessica Tandy!!!!! How about that?
I love going to the theatre, especially when I get to see the latest musical. I prefer to see theatre in Times Square, ala New York City (NYC) but Canada is no slouch in that department, but I do feel Diahann Carroll was miscast in Sunset Boulevard.
Andrea McArdle, on the other hand, was not miscast as the little girl with a fast hook in Annie. I fell in love with Andrea when I first heard her sing the song 'Maybe' and then I became a life-long fan when she belted out 'Tomorrow!' I believe Rex Reed, the NYC critic referred to her as a pint-sized Ethel Merman. Andrea McArdle has such a clear and memorable voice, and once you hear it, you will never forget it, and you too will want to purchase her album. I am reminded of apple pie when I hear Andrea sing, isn't that bizarre? I will go see Andrea in any musical and I try to record all of her appearances on television for posterity. One of Andrea's move when she sings is that, at the last note, she raises her right arm that extends from her side all the way to over her head. This is an Andrea McArdle move and all of those other Annies have copied her. Andrea should have put a patent on this move. I just love her!
I can name all of the little girls that played Annie during its first Broadway run. They are: Miss Andrea McArdle, proceeded by Shelley Bruce, Sarah Jessica Parker (yes the one on Sex and the City,) Allison Smith from Kate N Allie fame, and finally, Allyson Kirk.
This past summer Andrea went full circle and played Miss Hannigan in Annie. It was at some theatre in South Carolina and I wish I could have seen her in it. I am devoted to Andrea, but I do wish Andrew Lloyd Webber had had the good sense to give her a bigger part in Starlight Express. Andrea played Ashley, the smoking car, which was not the female lead, and I don't know why she chose to play this part. Maybe she just wanted to learn how to roller skate, which she did beautifully. I went to see this show with my brother Harvey and he really loved it, alas, I was disappointed just because Andrea did not have the female lead and she should have.
Okay, we are in the midst of another thunderstorm, truthfully it is a lightning storm, and I don't like to use my computer while it is raining, so I am logging off to protect my computer from getting damaged. Therefore, here is what topics are coming soon: Oprah, Maureen Beckett, also known as (aka) The Walmart Woman, and The last of the red hot meat eaters.

What a Wednesday!!!
Date: Wednesday August 18th, 2010
Word of the Day: tare; the weight of the wrapping or container that holds an object; the weight of a vehicle without cargo, passengers, etc.
Weight: 228 pounds
Goal: lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose: 96 pounds
Rowing Duration: 101 minutes, 45 seconds
Well, it has been years since I was able to row for that long a period, I am very proud of myself for doing over 1.5 hours on Cruella today, how about that? Oh, and if you listen to music while you exercise, choose it carefully, as that music may be what stops you exercising, you have no idea how miserable listening to Les Miserables actually is, I kid you not.
As I mentioned in yesterday's blog, (in the coming attractions section,) I will talk today about my experience with penis enlargement. I really wrestled with this one as it may 'be a little serious, not to mention revealing, and I do not want to offend any of you, but, I rationalized that maybe there is somebody out there who will see this blog, and he will know that he is not alone. That is the risk that I am willing to risk. Besides, I did say that I would talk about it and I am a man of my word.
I find it noteworthy that the Bible says to love your neighbour, but I know of no clause in the Bible to love yourself. I think loving yourself is something everybody needs to do, so parents, when you are raising your children to be independent thinkers, and just plain independent, teach them also: to be compassionate, avoid rascism, if you are able to help out somebody, do it, find something that makes you happy and do that for your job, do not just think about the rewards in life, and most of all, teach your children and your self to love yourself, it may cut down the therapy time.
I have made the decison that when I lose my weight, I am going to get rid of all of my fat clothes. I do not want to keep them, just in case. And when I am finally back in better health, I intend to buy alot of new and expensive clothes, then I am going to go show myself off at the Church of the very unnatural hair colour. Of course this isn't the Church's real name, it just happens to be a by-product.
Yesterday, after going through the entire summer (almost) my nurse, Willy, called me to tell me he is enjoying my blog, and that I shouldn't change the name of it. I had no intention of changing it, but I appreciated the call as it has been awhile since Willy and I last chatted. I think, and I know this is going to get me in big, big trouble, and I swear, I'm not sexist, but I prefer nurses that are female, they seem to carry that motherly caring trait, and I stand by that nurses should possess the three b's: Beautiful, blonde, and named Brenda!
I take my hat off to all nurses, regardless of hair and it's colour. Nurses work extremely hard, and never get the appreciation they richly deserve, so today I salute all nurses, and I want to personally thank you for all the help that I have received from you.
Last night, I chatted with my niece/Goddaughter Sally, who is my brother Biff's oldest child, to ask her how she keeps herself motivated with all the practice runs, and exhibitions that she has to perform to keep herself in the game, and she advised me that you just do it, and that you try not to think of it too much because that can overwhelm you. I have always maintained that sometimes our young friends give the best advice, I am so proud of Sally!
I wish I could be equally proud of the adults in my life. I don't know if I am just stupid, or too naive, but it perplexes me on issues that adults tend to get so riled about. For example, the other day I was watching a daytime chat show, and please don't ask me to reveal which one as that would be indiscrete, The View, and the ladies there got into a heated debate on schools teaching their young people,( I think it relates to children in the Grade One level,) the proper names of their anatomy.
Well, all hell broke loose as some of the panel believed that this topic was the responsibility of the parents, and that it did not belong in school. I agree with this, as long as the parents do it, but unfortunately, many do not, or when they do, some of the parents will attach such silly names as: wee wee, dinky, private area, etc.
What the heck is wrong with good old fashioned honesty and just call it for what it is, your penis, and your vagina. That way, your children will be learning the right name, and you will not have to take it back because your children learn a different name. I really can't understand why people get so hung up on this issue, it is ridiculous.and completely unnecessary.
Now, since you brought up the subject, okay lets not get stressed over who really brought up the subject, but when I was a young boy, as I've mentioned before, I grew up without a father. One day, when I was about seven years old, and I was in the dressing room at a community pool, I noticed a man and his genitalia. I thought, upon seeing the man's pubic hair that this was the ugliest thing I had ever seen in my life, and I started hoping and wishing that I would never look like that man.
I got my wish, at least until I was seventeen years old. I don't know why I didn't develop like everybody else, maybe it was psychosomatic, in any case, I did not look like any of the other boys my age. This is fine, when you're seven, but, troubling and disturbing when you are an adolescent, and you want to be like everyboyd else. I was always different and could not figure out why.
I grew despondent, and finally decided at fifteen years old, to ask my family doctor, Dr. Woody (yes, I see the irony,) if there was anything that could be done.
"What seems to be troubling you today?" asked the concerned doctor who would later wish he hadn't come in that day.
"I'd like a bigger penis" I answered honestly and nervously, I was so scared he would tell my mother.
"I beg your pardon," he said in a voice that quivered.
"Well, its embarrasingly small." I could feel myself getting red in the face and Dr. Woody had to notice that I was obviously upset.
"Ah, how old are you now Efrem?" asked Dr. Woody
"I'm fifteen years old."
"And, um," Dr. Woody seemed to be struggling with finding words and his voice. An eternity of time seemed to pass.
"No, I have not gone through puberty yet" I offered, hoping that was what Dr. Woody wanted to know.
"Oh," said Dr. Woody pausing for a moment. He then continued.
"You do know, don't you son, that it will grow." "They have taught you that in school, haven't they?" asked the good doctor.
"Well, not that specifically, but if you are asking if I know the facts of life, I do."
"You see son, you have nothing to worry about, you're just late in reaching puberty." This is what Dr. Woody's parents paid good money for so that he could get a medical degree.
"I AM WORRIED, Dr. Woody," I said raising my voice. "All the guys at school make fun of me and I hate going there." I started to cry.
"I'm sorry, there really is nothing I can do about that, but if you like, I could speak to your mother"
I yelled out, "No, please, don't tell her." I begged. What the heck was Dr. Woody thinking about? I decided that I would have to take the bull by the horn or risk having my mother know all of the embarrasing facts about me.
"While I am waiting to reach puberty, is there anything I can do to make my penis bigger?" This would be the first time in my life that I would ever hear anything about penis enlargement.
"NO" said Dr. Woody bluntly ending that subject and dashing all of my hopes. "I'm afraid not, but son, do you know about masturbation?" I couldn't believe what this guy was asking me, I had already told him that I knew the facts of life.
"Yes of course I do" I admitted getting embarrased all over again.
"When you play with it, don't you notice a change in size then?"
"Marginally, but I can't play with myself in front of the other guys at school, can I?!" "So what good is that?" I asked feeling myself getting frustrated and angry..
"I guess its no good, I just wanted to make sure you know that your penis will grow when you masturbate!"
"Thank you Dr. Woody, please don't tell my mother that I even came here for a visit."
"No, don't worry, I won't." guaranteed Dr. Woody. he continued. "And Son, really, I bet you are going to go through puberty soon, so cheer up, that crackle in your voice is a good sign that you are starting to change"
Two years later, I did change and would never ever need to know anything about penis enlargement again.
Since we are on the subject of the penis, lets just get it out there, all guys, at some time or another, will take a peek at the guy at the urinal beside them. This does not make them gay, it makes them human. We all compare, even the ladies, then we complain!!! And speaking of toilets, the women are right, damn it, if you can't aim, sit down on the bloody thing! Nothing irritates me more than standing in a pool of somebody else's urine. If you are at our cottage, and your male, why not pee outside, its so liberating!
Finally, when I said there would be topics, coming soon, this did not mean it would happen the next day. If I say I'm going to talk about something, I will, I just have to feel it on that day. So, topics coming soon, are Oprah, Broadway's original Annie, the one and only Miss Andrea McArdle, and Maureen Beckett, also known as (aka) The WalMart Woman!!!

Talk Tuesday
Date: Tuesday August 17th, 2010
Word of the Day: rara avis; a rare or unique person or thing; rarity
Weight: 228 pounds
Goal: lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose: 96 pounds
Rowing Duration: 80 minutrs, 42 seconds
How about that word of the day, pretty rare eh? I wonder how people know that I am a Canadian, and a very proud one, I love my country.
As Joan Rivers says, "Can we talk?"
Already, I can hear the groans and moans coming from you, but I am just going to talk about life, how bad can that be?
I no longer ask the proverbial question, "What more can happen to me?" because something more always does happen, that is just the nature of the beast.
I really thought God would give me a break after I endured a traumatic childhood, and more than the usual childhood maladies (measles, mumps, being short,) and then in my adulthood, getting asthma, having to stay in the hospital twelve times in one year, watching my weight escalate from 125 pounds to 260 pounds, kidney stones, and a prostatectomy. I really thought that would be it for a bit. But no, I then got nasal polyps, and the biggest ones the ear-nose-throat (ENT) surgeon ever saw, became disabled and couldn't walk for over two years, somehow got seborrhea dermatitis, which I can't even spell, had my gall bladder removed, and finally, the big C, which stands for Cancer for those of you who have never heard it referred to in that way! Don't worry, don't worry, I'm fine
Out of all those things, the two I find the most upsetting is being overweight and being very short. It is so horrible to be a man, and to be short in height, as I'm sure very tall women will attest. I am working on the weight problem, but there is nothing in the world that I can do to stop being short, except wear platform shoes, and naturally, they never come in my size.
Okay, can we now talk about colonoscopies? If you are out there, and are over fifty years old, for heaven's sake, go get a colonoscopy. They really are not that bad, actually, it is the prep work that you have to do the day before that is the worst part of a colonoscopy, and after you do empty yourself out, you will probably find that you weigh less, so keep that in mind.
The first colonoscopy I had was the most uncomfortable and that was only because I wasn't given any medication. My doctor thought it best not to give me any anasthetic, or drugs, because my asthma was quite bad at that time, and the specialist thought that I could run into some trouble if any meds were administered. So, I was completely awake and conscious, and I'm willing to bet that the doctor who performed the colonoscopy, and probably everyone else in the operating room, wished I wasn't awake. To keep my mind off of what they were doing, I kept talking to the people in the room about everything and anything, and most of all, everything that I could see on the monitor. The first thing that really got my attention was the colour of the inside of my rectum. It was all pink and fleshy like, not at all what I expected. Next, I was fascinated with how polyps are removed, and on that day, I had nine of them, six big ones, and three small ones. It was like watching a video or arcade game, the instrument would creep up on the polyp and then ZAP, the polyp would be hooked and blasted into oblivion. It really is interesting to watch, until you realize that this procedure is being performed on you!!!
I am a very curious person and ask people, and talk about, all kinds of things, especially if I'm nervous, it can really run the gamut. As I mentioned, I was trying to forget what they were doing so I talked about anything that my little head could think of, which naturally brought me to the subject of George Bush.
"Will you shutup already?" asked the proctologist "You're not even American!!!!!"
"But I am human!"
"You're not going to be anything if you don't let me concentrate on what I'm doing!"" quipped the doctor, so I quieted down, a little.
Boy oh boy that is strong coffee, you have to excuse me for a moment, I need to put away the dishes from the dishwasher and I want to read my email.
I always wanted to be a writer as I thought to be an actor you had to be much taller and better looking, besides when I wrote, I could be anything that I wanted, I was always loved, and I always, always got the happy ending.,
One day, I hope to be a published author and if I become successful at it, I may then act again. I know, I know, I've done plenty of school acting, also community theatre, but I've never had a speaking part in a movie, nor have I been on Broadway. These have always been goals of mine, but they may not be in my future, and I'm okay with that, as I've reached most of my other goals that I consider important.
I tend to be a control-type of person, and you can do this when you write, you can't when you're an actor; you have to be the way the director wants you to be, which is not my style. I suppose that is why many actors want to direct.
I wish I could control what goes on in my body. I have been constipated for the last four days, could you tell?, and I don't understand why. I eat alot of roughage, and get plenty of fruit and fibre. It was only until I had a bran muffin that POW!, I plugged up the toilet!, then things finally got back to normal.
Did I tell you that as a child I got to go to the movies every Saturday afternoon. One of the things that I enjoyed at the movies were the coming atrtactions, which has given me the idea that in my blog, I will advise you of the upcoming topics. So, coming soon, are my feelings on Oprah, Broadway's original Annie, the one and only Andrea McArdle, and penis enlargement, oh grow up (to quote Joan Rivers, yet again!)
They say admission is good for the soul, so here goes: I can tell you the name of the theatre/show/cinema wherein I saw all the movies that I have ever seen. Its true, it must be a sickness of some sort. For example, I can tell you that I saw Cactus Flower at the Odeon York and Wait Until Dark at the Hollywood cinema. My favourite cinema was a tie between the Odeon Carlton and the University. Gosh, they were magnificent and beautiful cinemas, I just loved going to see movies at them.
I also love watching Desperate Housewives on television. Like so many other people, what goes on at Wysteria Lane is of interest to me.
I don't think I have a favourite housewife, there are so many interesting traits and characteristics on each of the main characters that I couldn't possibly choose just one, which is a testament to just how good a writer is Marc Cherry (this overrun sentence bothers me.)
I am sorry that they decided to kill off the character Edie Brit. I got such a charge out of Edie, and I really appreciated that Edie was so honest, she really did remind me of one or two women that are in my life.
Okay, when I start to hit the publish post key, I believe this is God's way of saying that you are done for the day, so that's it folks.
Have a great one!
Later.

Monday Madness
Date: Monday August 16th, 2010
Word of the Day: incunabulum; the earliest stages or first traces of anything
Weight: 228 pounds
Goal: lose 100 pounds in one year
Pounds left to lose: 96 pounds
Rowing Duration: 75 minutes, 49 seconds
I had such high hopes of writing a good blog today, alas, yesterday the wind knocked off the internet connection, and I only recently was able to get back on the Internet, so please note, if there is no blog (from me,) it means that I had no internet connection.
Judy is leaving today and Mavis is arriving. That's how it goes here.
There will not be much of a blog today, as the creative juices run early in me, and I am now in a relaxation mood, but, at least I managed to do my daily indicators.
I don't know if I reported my food intake yesterday, there was the daily cream of wheat, etc., one green apple, and a handful of macaroni with cheese. I didn't feel well so I didn't eat alot. Not eating is the plus side of being sick.
It is much cooler today, the storm yesterday really impacted the weather here. However, there is still time for plenty of the hot stuff. Ah oh, I do believe we are going to get another storm. I better go put a covering on Cruella.
I hooked up the stereo in the screened in porch so that I can listen to music while I am rowing on Cruella, exercise can be so boring, especially at the 75 minute mark! Can you believe it, only a week ago, I was just at the fifteen minute mark, now I am completing over an hour. Think nails is my motto while I row, and as the sweat rolls off of , so do all of my fat anxieties. I think I am finally experiencing endorphins, I actually enjoyed my time on Cruella, this will not last, I know me.
I am visualizing myself as a thin person as thinking this way is supposed to help you get that way, we'll see.
Last night on television I watched West Side Story again. That makes 119 times, at least, that I have seen this film, and at least fifteen times that Zac says he has had to watch this movie! Natalie was so beautiful; her death really was a tragic loss.
I have some followers on my blog, this is very exciting. I wonder if I'll be the new Solomon.
I had a nice talk on the phone yesterday with my friend Melinda, she thinks I should change the name of my blog to thisthatandthosevoices. I must confess I like the name.
I need to get my friend, and Zac's nephew, Ben, out here to the cottage. Ben works in the computer field, and I'm hoping he will be able to resolve all of the problems I am experiencing on my laptop, as well as show me why I don't have any space left, I've deleted practically all of my software, and I am so annoyed!
The wind is really picking up again, I hope we don't lose any more trees that are on this island, that would be a shame.
Okay, sorry folks, but I'm going to publish this post as I think I am going to lose my extension due to a power outage. I told you it wouldn't be much of a blog today, maybe I'll do better tomorrow.

Sunday HOPEFUL Sunday
Date: Sunday August 15th, 2010
Word of the Day: Impedimenta; Baggage or other things hat retard one's jprogress
Weight: 228 pounds
Goal: lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds left to lose: 96 pounds
Rowing Duration: 64 minutes, 44 seconds
It is the beginning of a new week and today is the day and week that has no mistakes in it, so far, as Anne Shirley would say. Too bad, I can't say the same thing for this blog.
How about that time I spent on Cruella, pretty amazing, for me. I really pushed myself because I know today is the day I weigh in, and I really want to show an improvement. The problem is that now that I have done this time once, I may expect myself to always be able to accomplish it.
I decided to wait until after I showered and shaved to weigh myself, all that dirt and whiskers surely make up an ounce, and I can't afford to carry the extra weight when I step on the scale.
Okay, I've lost four pounds. Four BIG pounds. Four pounds, arrivederci baby!!!!, and I'm not even Italian!!! I know that may not seem like much to you, but for the last year, and ever since I've started taking Prednisone, I've done nothing but gain weight, so I finally have something to cheer about, let's hear it for me!!!!!!! Now, back to work!!!!!
I've done it again!!!! I published the blog before it was ready. It must be the excitement of losing weight or perhaps I'm just weak or prone to publishing, I don't know, but please, bear with me. I've got so much to say.
For the sixth day in a row, it is cloudy and overcast outside. I know it is redundant to say it is overcast and cloudy, but I'm trying to be as descriptive as possible and for me, that means occasionally being redundant. Okay, I know there is a grammarian out there who is ready to pounce on me for making a grammatical mistake. It's been a long time since I've been pounced on, but that's clearly a story for adult readers only.
Zac thinks Winter is losing weight, that bitch is so competitive, please forgive my language but that is what they call a female dog in the kennels.
Yesterday, besides the cream of wheat with oat bran, skim milk and Splenda on it, I ate, one peach, one green apple, one green salad, one small piece of chicken, no potatoes, and one cob of corn. Gosh, when you write it out like that, it really does seem like alot of food.
Remember, I told you that I would not be able to forego ice cream forever, since, I'm doing so well, I've decided to make it bi-weekly before I indulge in the best dessert this island has to offer, after all, there are no more brownies left that Alice made, shucks!!!
It hasn't even been a week since the girls left and I miss them so much. Dinner is always late, if indeed I get dinner, I'm always having to wash dishes, and there is nobody to salute during the cocktail hour! On top of all that, the girls were alot of fun and I miss the female perspective on any and all topics that get discussed.
Judy is currently hovering around, she is waiting until I leave the living room so she can watch her religious programs. I know it's Sunday, but I can't stand those programs. They are so down and pessimistic. I don't know why they can't be more cheerful, I believe in the old adage, you catch more flies with honey. Evidently, God thinks differently than I.
Judy says she watches those shows to learn things, and to see if they concur with what she has read in the Bible. Can you imagine her reaction if they come up with something completely different? I'll buy tickets to that event!!!!!
God Bless Judy, her sense of humour, her faith, her knowledge, and her weight are all things that I envy, but I'm working on respecting my own characteristics, and who knows, one day, I may challenge Judy (she's blonde you know,) for having people look at you,
Well, wet my feet and call me Duckie! Judy is watching the televison show, 'In touch Ministries,' and the theme of today's show is bondage. (Bondage with your thinking, your feelings, etc.)
I wish you could smell me, I am wearing Chanel for Men, and it is one of my very favourite colognes. There are so many places, these days, where you are forbidden to wear after shave, so I like staying here on the island where I can wear all the perfume that I want.
I first received Chanel for Men, from a very close friend of mine, Melinda, who I met at my workplace. It was Christmas, and our work area always played Secret Santa during this festive season. There was a dollar limit on how much we were supposed to spend, but Melinda always ignored this, and went way above the spending limit. If Melinda just happened to pull your name out of the hat, you became the envy of the group. I think people forget what the season is supposed to be about.
Melinda is gorgeous and at ninety-nine pounds, thinks she is overweight. Melinda is a twin, and her identical sister's name is Darlinda. Ironically, Melinda has twins of her own named Stella and Stanley. I wonder if Melinda was watching 'A Streetcar named Desire' when she came up with the names.
It happened again, the blog was published before it was ready. I know I did not hit the publish key, all I did was hit enter. I wonder if this is a sign that I should be wrapping up today's entry, alas, the day has just begun, and I'm sure there will be other things that need documenting.
Well, like the other five days before it, the day is shaping up to be bright, blue and sunny. It is so hot and humid out, and it is not even eight o'clock am. I don't know how people in the city stand the heat. My brother Biff's family in Gainesville, Florida, must find the temperature stifling, at least they have a swimming pool in the backyard, and can take a swim whenever they want.
Zac, Winter, and I are very close to my brother Biff, his wife, Louise, and their three children, Sally, Jessie, and Raphael.
I feel alot of empathy towards Raphael, he is the only boy among the children, and having a father that travels away from the home frequently (for work) seems to take a toll on him. Therefore, we all try and give Raphael special attention. The girls, however, are fiercly independent and are in Gymnastics. I expect, one day, we may see Sally and Jessie compete in the Olympics, but regardless, the sport is demanding and having two children in it sure keeps the wallet thin. I don't know how Louise and Biff manage it.
Isn't it something how so many people say irregardless. There is no such word, and I think its as bad as pronouncing the t in often.
I'm clearly a jinx. Clouds have now taken over the sky and I hear thunder, well, a rainstorm may clear up the humidity.
I haven't talked to Mabel on the telephone in such a long time. It has to be a week. Mabel sings professionally, and if she is not at rehearsel, she is in concert. I wonder if Mabel gets tired of travelling or at never being able to stay at home for more than a week. It sounds glamorous to be on the road, and to have fans all over the world want your autograph, but I know the price is high for fame, and I suspect the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. It seldom is greener, and I don't need to travel to Oz to learn that lesson.
Okay, I think I'm becoming too much of a chatterbox, so, that's it folks.
