Yes, I know I did not exercise this morning.  Yesterday afternoon, I started feeling unwell and it has carried through right until today, plus my back is extremely sore.

I am hoping that this is just a 24 hour thing and that I'll be as good as new tomorrow, it feels so strange not to do the things that have become routine and familiar to me.

Obviously, I do not feel like writing, so I know you will understand if I just head back to bed.

See you tomorrow.

Sunday The Day

Date:                              Sunday, September 5th, 2010
Word of the Day:           degage; without emotional involvement, detached; unconstrained;  easy as in
                                       manner or style
Weight:                          224 pounds
Goal:                              lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose:               92 pounds
Waist Size:                     51 inches
Rowing Duration:          109 minutes, 1 second, 92 minutes, 58 seconds (second session)

Its that time again, no matter how much I want to avoid it, I have to face the scale.  Yup, its weigh-in day,  and I have to face reality, no matter how much I live to avoid it.

It is so hard, when I get up early in the am., to go to Cruella and start the exercise.  Of course, after the first 500 strokes, I feel better.  500 strokes on Cruella usually take fifteen minutes to complete, there is a clock on Cruella, that I don't like to look at, it distracts me, nor do I need it as my concentration is getting quite good, and only occasionally will I lose count, this occurs when I start to sing to a song that I really like.   I need to have two good workouts today, and going by the first session, I'm off to a good start, I rowed for over one and three quarter hours, I say that that is rather impressive.

It is especially important that I work hard at my exercise this morning,  as last night, (naturally I do this the day before I weigh in,)  I pigged out, Shoshanna and Wally prepared the dinner and it was,  to say the least, just excellent.

Last night, I ate for dinner, two halfs of a cob of corn, quick arithmetic will indicate that that equals one full cob of corn, that alone isn't too bad, but the butter and salt I put on it should be reduced, I also had two servings of salad, no potatoes, and about one handful of meat that consisted of chicken and a small piece of pork chop.   Chicken and chops is the name we give it, Winter really enjoyed dinner last night, as well, she is very fond of chicken.  I tasted eggplant for the first time,  and it wasn't bad, it had a kind of barbecue taste to it.  I, also, had a raspberry yogurt, and about five extra raspberries for dessert.  As for the food I took in for the rest of the day, there was the standard/usual cream of wheat with all the stuff that I associate with it, one balogna sandwich and two pieces of mozzarella string cheese, one large green apple, two cans of ice tea, and two cups of coffee.  That, on the whole, is way too much food and I greatly need to reduce it and I shall.

I just weighed myself and I've knocked off another pound, and reduced two and a half inches off of my waist.  That isn't a bad result, but I certainly do work hard at it.

Last night on the Turner Classic Movie (TCM) channel, they viewed some excellent movies, one of which was "Summer of '42!"  How about that?  I watched it, after all, it has been a long time, and that movie is just a gem of a film,  it has good pedigree, Robert Mulligan, from "To Kill A Mockingbird" fame directed it, Jennifer O'Neill is beautiful, perfect, and makes you long for that very special time, Gary Grimes, I think it is his film debut, and he is equally good, quirky, funny, serious, all the elements that make a good actor, and I know if he wanted it, he could have had a longer career, Jerry Houser does what he does best, act like a bit of a bafoon, Katharine Allentuck, who is is perfect as Aggie, is Maureen Stapleton's daughter,  Oliver Conant as Benji could not be better, and Christopher Norris played Miriam, and she is stunning,  I know why they cast her as Ripples on that television show, Trapper John, M.D.  The cinematography is quite beautiful as is Michel Legrand's score which picked up an Academy Award.

Occasionally, I get asked if I colour my hair, I don't, but sometimes I mind getting asked because I would be upfront about it, you see, I'm not against doing anything that improves one's outlook on life and on oneself, so I don't care if its plastic surgery, yoga, hair transplants, transadental meditation, acupuncture, hair colour, absolutely anything, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone or cost someone too great a price.

I am getting grey hair, its there all right, its just right now I fortunately have more brown hair and that covers up the grey, but I'm sure that will change.  I really don't care what colour it is, as long as it keeps growing.  I, also, have white hair, you'll never guess in the location, the first place any hair on my body changed its colour was in my eyebrows, I'm serious.  I was looking in the mirror (that will teach me,) and POP, there it was.  Naturally, I plucked it out right away; I'm not very good at this procedure, I wasn't using tweezers, just my fingers,  and unfortunately with the one white hair, I took out about fifty black ones.  I have these bald spots all throughout my eyebrows as I have been pulling white hair out extensively.  And that's not the worst of it.

As I get on in life, I'm finding that my eyebrows have developed a life of their own, they go out into all directions, some of them are even 3D, you should see it, and you can't control them, oh no, that is out,  some of them get as long as my fingers, it is truly something else.  Wild eyebrows is, I'm told, a feature of all men as they get older, but I don't think I've seen anyone whose eyebrows quite match my own.

My eyebrows have been a sensitive subject to me all of my life.  They were always so bushy and long, I hate them.  I remember a girl in my grade nine English class named Olga Mikanos, she used to sit there in class with her tweezers out, looking at me and saying, "just give me five minutes," "Efrem, that's all I need."

Its strange, but I only have thick eyebrows, I'm not hairy anyplace else.  I've been told that bushy eyebrows is a sign of true masculinity, if that is in fact, true, I guess I would outdo John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, George Clooney and all the rest of them.  I wonder if I get my bushy eyebrows from the French side of my family, Juliet Binoche is French, she doesn't seem to have my eyebrow problem!!!!!!

Okay, Mabel, are you paying attention?  The decision to circumcise has become a hot,  red-hot topic and is very, very controversial.  Everyone is all over the map on this subject, and I seem to be waffling as well.  Circumcision is not just about asthetics anymore!!!! For the record, I am circumcised,  but if I was given the choice today, I'm not sure if it is something I would have decided for myself.  So, what is circumcision?

Male circumcision, there is a difference you know, is the removal of some or all of the foreskin (prepuce) from the penis.

The word circumcision comes from the Latin circum (meaning "around") and caedere (meaning "to cut").  Early depictment of circumcisions are found in cave paintings and Ancient Egyptian tombs, so like Elizabeth Taylor, it has been around awhile.

Religious male circumcision is considered a commandment from God in Judaism.  In Islam, it is widely practiced and ost often considered to be a sunnah.

Circumcision is also customary in some Christian churches in Africa, including some Oriental Orthodox Churches.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) global estimates suggest that 30% of males are circumcised, of whom 68% are Muslim.

The prevalence of circumcision varies with most religious affiliation and sometimes cultural.  Most circumcisions are performed during adolescence, yes, that is true, for cultural or religious reasons.  In some cultures, circumcisions are more commonly performed during infancy.

Okay, so why the controversy?

Arguments that have been raised in favour of circumcision include that it provides important health advantages which outweigh the risks, circumcision has no substantial effects on sexual function, (how do they know?, I might have been even better than I already am!,)  and circumcision has a low complication rate when carried out by a physician,  and is best performed during the neonatal period.

Those rated in opposition to circumcision include that it adversely  affects penile function and sexual pleasure is justified by medical myths, circumcision is extremely painful,  and is a violation of human rights.

It is widely suggested that today,  parents are advised by all doctors that they should wait until a boy/man can make the decision to circumcise/not circumcise for his self.  Is this a good decision?  What do you think?

The WHO (2007), the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS, 2007) and the Center for Disease and Prevention (CDC) state that evidence indicates male circumcision significantly reduce the risk of HIV acquisition by men during penile-vaginal sex, but also state that circumcision only provides partial protection,  and should not replace other interventions to prevent transmission of HIV.

There are several hypotheses to explain why infant circumcision was accepted, about the year 1900 there was the germ theory, are you paying attention Howie Mandel?  The germ theory of disease elicited an image of the human body as a conveyance for many dangerous germs, making the public "germ phobic," and suspicious of dirt and bodily secretions.  The penis became "dirty" by association with its function,  and from this premise, circumcision was seen as preventive medicine to be practiced universally.  In the view of many practitioners, circumcision was a method of treating and preventing masturbation.  Great, they're trying to remove a young man's favourite hobby.

Circumcision was also said to protect against:  syphilis, phimosis, paraphimosis, balanitis and excessive venery (which was believed to produce paralysis.)

A 1987 study found that the most prominent reasons parents choose circumcision "concerns about the attitudes of peers, and their sons self concept in the future,"  rather than medical concerns.

A later study speculated that an increased recognition of the potential benefits of neonatal circumcision may be have been responsible for the increase between 1988 and 2000.

In Canada, Ontario Health services delisted circumcision in 1994.

The United Kingdoms newly National Health Service removed infant circumcision from its list of  covered services, and circumcision has since been an out-of-pocket cost to parents.  This is also true of Ontario, Canada.

I have decided not to write about how circumcisions are performed, this information is widely available on the Internet, your local library, and with your male childs psychiatrist.

So, are you happy Mabel?

Saturday Special

Date:                                Saturday, September 4th, 2010
Word of the Day:             moil; to work hard, drudge
Weight:                            225 pounds
Goal:                                lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose:                 93 pounds
Waist Size:                       53.5 inches
Rowing Duration:             107 minutes, 48 seconds,  85nminutes, 45 seconds (second session)

Its the weekend again, hurray, I hope that if you spent time travelling on the road to your weekend destination, traffic wasn't too bad.  I know some of you started your Labour Day weekend early, I couldn't reach any of you by phone at your workplace.

I had alot of fun yesterday writing about a couple of movies,  and poking a little fun at my good/dear friend, Lily Rose, we have that kind of relationship, we like to joke around alot!  Mind you, when it comes to work, Lily Rose and I are very serious workers and we give it our 100%, that is what you get paid to do, after all.

My readers/followers are slowly growing,  and I'm enjoying the feedback that I get on a daily basis, it is nice to know that people are reading your blog, even when you don't have anything too important to discuss.  I enjoy meeting and talking to new people so please do not hesitate and tell your friends to read my blog!!!!

Zac, Winter, and I  welcomed  Zac's nephew and his fiance, Shoshanna as they arrived for a visit yesterday.   I especially enjoy their visitations, Shoshanna is in the movie business and I like to talk shop with her, I'm always at her to use me in her documentaries, which she never does.

Shoshanna and Wally arrived at about 6:45 pm.yesterday.   Unfortunately, I had eaten as I was unsure of when exactly they would arrive,  and I assumed that by the time they got here, unpacked, decided what they wanted for dinner, then the preparation of that dinner, well I guesstimated that would be eight o'clock pm., and that is much too late to eat my dinner.  Usually, that is the time I am falling asleep, two o'clock am., comes awfully early.

Winter was so excited to see Shoshanna and Wally that she had a small accident on the floor, we never get cross when Winter accidentally pees on the floor, because people sometimes react in the very same manner, and they don't get punished for it, do they?

I was very impressed with how well my first session on Cruella went, sometimes it is much easier then other times, and one hour and three quarters at one sitting is quite a long time for my pattingless bottom.  The second session is always tougher, I'm weaker, and rather sick at the sight of Cruella.  But I am slowly starting to see results.

I had ordered an extra large shirt (my size) from LLBean, unfortunatelly, the only size that this colour of shirt was now available was large.  I took a chance and  ordered it anyway as I knew I was starting to exercise.  When the shirt arrived it naturally did not fit,  and I was discouraged,  I was hoping that it might still fit me.  However, good news people, I wore that shirt this morning to do my rowing and it wasn't even snug, I had lots of room which is the validation I've been looking for; I'm so sick of seeing that Sara Rue person from Jenny Craig in television commercials/promos, who keeps bragging how she easily lost fifty pounds!!!!  Every time I see that misery, I want to thrown a brick through the television set.  How nice for Sara Rue,  I'd like to see her try and lose that weight again when she's fify-five years old!!!!

I, actually do think about signing up to Jenny Craig or Weightwatchers, just for the emotional support, I think I've got the portion control down, I just need encouragement for when I step on the scale and that little thing doesn't even budge.   I, understand, Jenny Craig will even deliver meals right to your doorstep,, that too might be good for me, that way I don't have to think about measuring, what to eat, etc., all of that is decided for you.  It would work if it wasn't so darn expensive,!!!!

I also need to develop more exercise to address my love handles, mine look more like love trunks, yup I've got two entire suitcases on my sides! (No wonder the airlines want to charge me more money!!)  During the day, I willl occasionally do some arm stretches but I don't know if this is enough, do any of you know of some good exercise, that is also easy, and will address, um my love handles?

After the cottage closes (I get sad just thinking about that eventuality,)  and we head back to Toronto, I am planning on restarting my swimming.  I used to be an excellent swimmer and could easily swim a couple of miles at a time.  Now, I don't think I could even manage a length, but I am determined to give this a go, and who knows, remember I couldn't row for very long when I first started!

I want,  and need to concentrate on my pecs, which are now vaguely similar to women's breasts, (at least I don't have to wear a man's bra,)  gosh I hate seeing myself in the mirror.  I don't recognize that person!

Please do not misunderstand me, I'm really not feeling sorry for myself, I just don't like the way I've let myself go and can't believe the devastating resultsIts funny how some people are always happy when you gain weight, I don't know if it really makes them feel better, but it certainly makes me question the motive of that person!  Anyway, I am now reinventing myself,  and I should concentrate on the positive and not the negative aspects.

It is the day before I weigh in, I'm feeling a little agitated as I still am able to let such a little thing affect me.  Even if I do not lose weight, I am feeling better, my blood pressure is  under control,  my stomach is shrinking (albeit if I were in a race with a turtle the turtle would win,), I am taking less pain medication for my back, and I'm feeling much better about myself than I have for a long, long time.  And I think that about says enough on that subject!

Cruella,      the rowing machine

Well, obviously I posted my blog in error;  I hate doing that as I need to note my daily indicators all over again.  I never even got to check for errors, I will now though.

See what I mean, the presentation of the blog is all over the place, I need to align it properly and make it nice to look at, don't you think?

It is obvious that I have the exercise under control, now, I need to concentrate on my eating.   I have to try and remember that every bite I put into my mouth,  is more time I will have to spend on Cruella, which is what I have named the rowing machine, I love it!!!

Last night after watching all of the regular television shows, Zac, Winter and I watched the movie 'National Velvet."  I wonder if Elizabeth Taylor realized how good she really was in that film, I am a big Liz Taylor fan!!!!

With regard to Elizabeth Taylor, many years ago, she was in Toronto making a movie with Carol Burnett, called 'Between Friends' at least I think that was what it was called.  Anyway, one day, they were filming a scene in Yorkville,  which just happened to be near my place of work,  so a friend of mine and I went over to see if we could see anything.  And we did, La Liz!!!  Miss Taylor had just finished filming a scene and was making a dash to her limousine when my friend yelled out, and I mean loudly, "Hey Liz!!!!"  Liz looked quite startled, shocked,  and when the Academy Award winning actress looked our way, as that was the direction of the yell,  I blew her a kiss.  Taking my cue, Miss Taylor started blowing kisses to the crowd of people,  who erupted into applause!  The next day there was a picture of Elizabeth Taylor blowing kisses right on the front page of the newspaper, Your Welcome People!!!!!!

Today, I restarted taking a daily dose of baby Aspirin.  I am over fifty years old,  and I need to have safeguards in place for my high cholesterol and blood pressure.  My general practitioner recommended I take an aspirin on a daily basis long ago, but when I started bruising all over my legs and feet, my doctor told me to stop taking the aspirin until the bruising went away, which obviously,  it has.  I am hoping that if I keep up the exercise, my blood pressure will improve so that I can stop taking Avapro,  and if my eating improves,  maybe my cholesterol will get better,  and I can stop taking the Lipitor.  You should never stop or start medication unless your doctor recommends it, but it is surprising, how many people actually do do their own presribing!!!!!!

Another gorgeous sunrise, spectacular purple, orange, pink in its hue,  and this time, Judy, is sharing it with me.  Judy is so quiet that you sometimes forget that she is there.  It is only when she lights up a cigarette, outside of course,  and you smell the smoke that you know,  aha,  Judy has come to visit!!!!

Yes, I've bitched to no end that Judy quit smoking, but it is she who has to make that decision and only when she is ready, will she be successful.

Fabulous Friday

Date:                               Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Word of the Day:            bilocation; the state of being or the ability to be in two places at the same time
Weight:                           225 pounds
Goal:                               lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose:               93 pounds
Waist Size:                      53.5 inches
Rowing Duration:           105 minutes, 46 seconds, 85 minutes, 31 seconds (second session)

I've had an idea, and it is just an idea, I thought that it might be a good thing that in my quest to get healthier, skinner, and feeling better, it could be positive to make it just not "all about me," and to ask some of you readers, that perhaps you could sponser me so that if I am successful at losing the 100 pounds in one year, maybe YOU will donate some money to a favourite charity, the one I'm thinking of is somewhat appropriate, the Canadian Heart Society, or whatever their legal name is, so that they continue researching heart disease.  This is not cut in stone, the diabetes charity is also on my list, so let me know what you think, this is just an option, you don't have to do it, nor should you stop reading my blog as this is the only time I will mention asking for your financial support in this area.  It will completely work on the honour system, so there is no need for me to take your name and keep a record, you decide if its worth it!

WOW!, the weather has certainly changed, it is rather cold now,  and I am thinking of the great quote "From the sublime to the ridiculous!"  This is just one of my favourite quotes,  and I always thought that it originated from Shakespeare,  but that just isn't so.  The saying is adapted from Tom Paine's influential "The Age of Reason," (1793).  The sublime and the ridiculous are often so nearly related that it is difficult to class them separately.  One step above, the sublime makes the ridiculous, and one step above the ridiculous makes the sublime again.  Napoleon may have helped to popularize the idea in its more succinct, modern form:  he is reported as saying in the year of the retreat from Moscow (1812,) "From the sublime to the ridiculous there is only one step!"

I wanted to call my blog "From the sublime to the ridiculous," unfortunately the quote is widely used in the blog world,  and I was unable to use it for this  reason

I recently sent out, blindly, an email, essentially about being Canadian and being proud of it, I really need to look over my contact list more carefully,  as there are people out there that disagree with portions of that article.   I don't expect everyone to agree, but the right to free speech is one of this country's rights,  and I uphold it strongly just as you have the right to your opinion, we don't always have to agree on everything.  That's what makes us each totally unique and different.

Okay, Lily, this is just for you.  Last night on the movie class network, I watched a great Kate Winslet double bill, The Reader, and Revolutionary Road.  For anyone who still has not seen either of these movies, you are missing one of today's greatest actresses at work, she really is phenomenal in both films, and was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress for The Reader, but I think the Academy was thanking her for both performances in both films.

I have to warn you that both The Reader and Revoluntionary Road are difficult subjects, these are dramas in the strict sense, so if you are looking for general "light affair," these are not the movies to watch.  One deals with an SS guard, who is put on trial, is she guilty or not guilty?, doesn't matter, the fact that she is ashamed that she is illiterate is too much for her to bear,  and that alone makes her feel enough shame for a lifetime, this film is exceptional in pointing out human foibles, so make sure you put The Reader on your must see list.  The second Kate Winslet film, Revolutionary Road is at times very difficult to watch; some of the scenes are so realistic,  and painful that it breaks my heart every time I see this movie.

Revolutionary Road is a reunion,  as it once again pairs Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, with the extra bonus of Kathy Bates, who was also in Titanic as Molly Brown.  Please pay close attention:  if you are hoping to see Leonardo DiCaprio pull off another portrayl like that of Jack Dawson, you are in for a big surprise, Frank Wheeler is no Jack Dawson.

Mr. DiCaprio is one peach of an actor, yes I know, I like to describe people as fruit, (I can't believe I just said and wrote that!,) however, Leonardo is excellent in this movie, at times, I thought his performance was a bit over the top, it is like he is trying to match Kate Winslet, who owns this movie.

The film was skillfully directed by the Academy Award winning director of American Beauty, Mr. Sam Mendes, who at the time of this movie, was married to Miss Winslet.  The amazing script was penned by Justin Haythe who must have known Michael Yates book backwards, he doesn't miss a thing.

The movie deals with the unraveling of a marriage and the protagonists'  desperate attempt to save it, very heavy stuff here, the climax of the film always brings chills to me,  and I find it extremely difficult to watch, it just makes me sick for our heroine who doesn't see any option.  Leonardo, Kathy Bates, Michael Shannon all give fantastic performances,  but it is Kate Winslet that you most remember, and deservedly so.

Last year, (2009) was a great year for seeing movies, there was also available for viewing, the Meryl Streep masterpiece, Doubt.  I am always so surprised to see Miss Streep pull off another unbelievable character,  and I think she is capable of doing anything that she darn well pleases.  Meryl Streep is a gift to all movie -goers,   and all, but maybe one of her movies,  are worth the price of admission.   Meanwhile Doubt also brings incredible acting from everybody in the movie, and the script is so crafted that even I had some Doubt at the end of the film, didn't you?

For those of you who don't know, Lily Rose, is a work colleague of mine and we once had an affair, it was both in our minds, but, the imaginary sex really was torrid,  and we like to reminisce about this frequently.  Lily and I worked together, we have the same mindset, and I believe that either one of us would do absolutely anything for the other.  I love Lily deeply and can't begin to describe to you how very much I miss seeing her every day.  It is true that Lily and I like our sex toys, and one day, I am going to have to tell you more about this, but, at this point, you are not quite ready, I'm not sure if I'm ready!!!!

Have a great Labour Day weekend, I'm sure it must be so nice to get three days off in a row, enjoy it, but please be safe in everything that you do.  Don't drink and drive, I can't believe that this still needs repeating, what is wrong with some people?  I guess everyone at times is capable of thinking that it won't, or can't happen to me.  Unfortunately, it does happen and I don't think people should just lose their license if they kill somebody while drunk driving,  I think they should be sent to prison for the criminal that they are, and thats how I honestly feel!  Just don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Taylor Thursday

Date:                               Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Word of the Day:             anacoluthia; lack of grammatical sequence or coherence, esp. in a sentence
Weight:                            225 pounds
Goal:                                lose 100 pounds in one year duration
Pounds to lose:                 93 pounds
Waist Size:                       53.5 inches
Rowing Duration:             102 minutes, 48 seconds, 78 minutes, 53 seconds (second session)

I want it to rain, long, hard and now and it looks like I just may get my wish.  I find it is always best to ask for things that are imminent, such as, alot of dark clouds hovering, added with a gusty wind, usually is indicative of rain, so I hope for rain and that way, I will not be too disappointed if for some bizarre reason it doesn't rain, but usually I get my wish.  If you ask for a sure thing, nine times out of ten you will get it.

I am getting feedback from some of you, and I want you to know how much I appreciate hearing from you, it really does mean alot to me.  And the jokes, anecdotes, smile of the day, how funny are they?, I wish I could forward them all to you, but some are on the dirty side, smell of chain-letter, religious overtones,  and I really don't want to alienate any of you, but they really are funny.

I love today's word of the day, it is so relevant,  and indicative of my style of writing.  I really should have followed through and completed that class on Grammar 101, at the University of Toronto, yes, I went there too!!!!!

I guess I've got caught that sometimes I do start the next day's post on the day previous, it is just so hard to input all of the daily indicators, each and every time, and I like to get it over with, and not much changes, except times, word of the day, etc.  Okay, okay, so I started writing a little, there isn't that much there,  and it shouldn't overwhelm you!

First things first, I would very much like to thank Marta Giametti, who not only reads my blog faithfully, she provides me with alot of ideas, as far as she is concerned, (and I,) no subject is too difficult to tackle.  I always, always appreciate,  and value her input.

I miss Marta, greatly, she and I almost instantly connected when we met at our workplace, and we found we had a shared interest, the theatre, so it was not too long into our friendship that we started going to see plays together.

Marta was always able to see things that I missed,  (I like to think that I'm observant,) and I enjoyed her thoroughness to the subject at hand, always providing me with insight, intelligence, and humour,  which made some of the stronger subjects easier to digest.

Marta and I went to plays that were popular, unpopular, but always controversial and I truly miss her company, one day I know we shall reconnect, and we will once again renew our friendship on a more personal level.

It seems the subject of circumcision has stirred an interest in some of you, hmmm. who would have ever thought, (besides me) that something so clinical, topical and controversial would be of so much interest?  I am not addressing the subject of circumcision today, I am still researching it, there really is alot to it,  and I want to carefully cull what I choose to put in my post.

I am now going to talk about cancer because I don't know of anyone who hasn't had some kind of cancer contact,  either with themselves, within the family unit, or with the stranger that you try not to notice,  and who you tell yourself that "well, it can't happen to me, I'm so different from him!"

Cancer does not discriminate, got that?,  and the likelihood is there that one day you will personally have to deal with it, not only on an emotional level but on a physical level, so why not align yourself with as much information that you can,  and share it with the person sitting next to you, you may just save their life.

On a very personal note, it really annoys me that I have family members who strike the attitude that they don't like to have tests done because they would rather not know if they're getting sick.    Can you believe this insanity?  It is so hard for me to stay quiet that I often get into trouble for opening my big mouth, but I can't help it, it is akin to watching someone hurt themselves.

There are so many different types of cancer:  breast, colon, lung, prostate, ovarian, skin, etc.  So what is Cancer, I'm so glad you asked.

Cancer is a class of diseases, in which a group of cells display uncontrolled growth (division beyond the normal links,) invasion (intrusion on and destruction of adjacent tissues,) and sometimes metastis (spread to other locations in the body via lymph or blood.)

These three malignant properties of cancer differentiate them from benign tumours which are self-limited, and do not invade or metastasize.  Most cancer form a tumour, but some, like leukemia, do not.

The branch of medicine concerned with the study, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer is Oncology.

Cancer affects people of all ages with the risk for most increasing with age, how nice, wrinkles, worn-out joints and limbs, and memory loss isn't quite enough of a challenge for us evidently.

The best defense against Cancer is often recognizing symptons early,  detecting the disease before it is able to progress, this is key and vital to the survival, are you paying attention my family?  Knowing what tools are available to you is often a large part of the battle.  So what symptons should you be aware of?,

Unfortunately, many types of Cancer don't display any obvious symptons or cause pain until well-advanced.  Early-stage Cancer symptons tend to be subtle, and there are some warning signs of Cancer that you should familiarize yourself with:

Change in bowel or bladder habits
A sore that does not heal
Unusual bleeding or discharge
Thickening or lump in the breast or any other part of the body; women should always be checking their breasts and mamograms should be conducted on a regular basis.  Men should be checking/feeling their testicles for small lumps
Indigestion or difficulty swallowing
An obvious change in a wart or mole
A nagging cough or hoarseness

Some symptons are specific to certain types or Cancer, such as difficult urination for prostate
Cancer, or flu-like symptons for acute leukemias.  Don't hesitate to discuss unusual symptons with your doctor.  Diagnostic tests are available to mose common Cancers.  If diagnosed early, your chances of surviving Cancer are greatly increased.

If you are over fifty years of age, and this isn't the first time I've said this, please do not hesitate to get a colonoscopy.  Trust me, they give you pleasant drugs for the procedure.  Had Zac been given a colonoscopy when he was just fifty years old, the problems that he is currently battling could be non-existent!

I have tried to provide you with a snapshot on the subject of Cancer, clearly there is too much information available to put in this blog, however, should you want more information, google Wikipedia, go to your library, speak to your doctor, and talk to people, every Cancer is unique to every individual so keep that in mind.

Rowing Duration:                195 minutes, 53 seconds, 72 minutes, 44  seconds (second session)

Well, its Hump Day, what a disgusting image, or wonderful image, depending on how you look at it, I just can't believe how fast the week is going,  life is running by me too quickly,  and not even giving me time to stop and smell the flowers.

As you can note by my second rowing session, the heat and the humidity kind of got to me today, as well as,  my behind was rather sore, I really do wish I had more patting there so I could endure the time on Cruella.

Once again, we find ourselves at the beginning of a new month, I think you all kow how I feel about the beginning of anything, it is time to start something new, get on with something, note that time is running by, stop procrastinating, enjoy your life;   Remember it is is the doing of something that makes you successful, not some prize at the end of the road.

I forgot to mention that Monday afternoon, my new computer finally arrived and on Tuesday, Zac very kindly set it up for me.  I could have done it myelf, I'm not an idiot you know, but, I think Zac just wanted something to do, with also getting a glance at the new computer.

I have named my new computer, The Camden Plus, because it is purple,  and purple is one of my niece Jessy's favourite colours.  Now, are you ready for my latest problem?

You all know I'm not a techie, how obvious can it be, but I don't understand why I'm experiencing my latest problem.

The Camden Plus has been set up,  and I am using it to check my email, etc., and do various searches oin the Internet.  After I have logged on to the Internet, I have made special provisions to have the first Internet page go directly to my email.  That way, I can see what my friends want, and/or are asking, or sending, without having to sign in to too many screens, which I absolutely hate and detest.

My problem is, I cannot access my blog from this new computer, I have keyed in blogger, which is what supports the blog, and then I key in:  thisthatandhim, but nothing works,  and I can't bring up the blog.  Can any of you explain to me the possibility of why I am not able to bring up my blog on the Camden Plus, please advise if you have any ideas or suggestions.

It is now true confession time.  This has been a long time coming.  As you can tell by my weight, I am rather obese, and I am quite ashamed of letting this weight problem go as far as it has, even though there are extenuating circumstances as to the reason for the weight-gain, I cannot in good conscience say it is completely because of the steroids, in partiuclar ,the  prednisone.  However, in addition to my asthma,  which is why I take the steroids, my asthma is quite chronic,  and I need to have Zac give me injections  of depomedrol, which allows me to breathe, when it is near impossible to do on my own, the drug works but causes severe side effects, such as my ability to walk.

I also suffer from chronic back pain,  which is no day at the beach, and take narcotics for this condition.  I'm not proud of this, nor am I an advocate to taking strong meds because oif a sore back, but my back really is something of a nuisance.

I have had a bad back since 1974, and despite several hospitalizations, multiple diagnoses and various attempts at rehabilitation, I have not made any advances in this area, it is just easier to take medication, but I'm getting so tired of just ingesting the meds,  and have nothing get better on a permanent basis..

My bad back is one of the reasons why I row, the other one being is to lose weight.  I am unable to walk  for any reasonable amount of time because my back gets too sore, probably because of just bad luck, but also because my gut is so big, it adds more pressure to the back when I am standing.

You may be wondering how is it that I'm able to row on Cruella for as long as I do, if my back is so sore, well, that's a good question.  While I am rowing, I tend to pull the bar towards my upper breast region, thus not putting too much pressure on the back, but, I would be a liar if I said I don't experience any pain in my back while I am rowing.  I can only tell you that I work through it, keeping my eye always on my goal, and suffering while doing it.  I still take narcotics for the pain,  when it flairs up, but I'm quite proud that I have been able to reduce the daily amount of narcotics that I consume greatly.  I am just taking one-third of the pills that I used to take daily,  and that is quite an achievement.   So, you see, people, if one day I am able to stop taking narcotics completely for the back pain,  and when I lose my weight, I will be a huge, huge winner, and that is the prime incentive that gets me up at two o'clock in the morning to exercise.     What's your excuse?

Don't you just love reformed whatevers, smoker, addicts, drinkers, procrastinators, etc?  We have a way of letting everyone know that we have all the solutions to the problems of the world, we don't, or why would we be a reformed anything in the firsrt place?

I did not go skinnydipping last night, and yes, it was very hot out, however, I did attempt to go into the lake yesterday afternoon,  and I was able to waddle into about the length of my knees.  However, because I have such difficulty walking, and because you have to walk on some rocks when you come out of the lake, which are very, very slippery, I need assistance,  and Zac sometimes just doesn't have the strength,  or desire,  to be able to pull it off.   The main reason I didn't get my whole body into the lake was that it was too cold, I thought it would be warmer, but then that would defeat God's purpose of sending us a hot and humid day, with a nice refreshing lake to cool ourselves off, alas, I just couldn't do it, yesterday.  Perhaps, today, I shall make another attempt at it.

My drink of choice is now Crystal-light, the raspberry flavour,  which is absolutely delicious,  and zero calories, that's right folks, no calories, zero, zilch, nada, nich!

I'm afraid I'm going to cut my post short today, I am just too hot,  and uncomfortable to think rationally, or creatively.
